It is time to choose the next LTS baseline.  The first release of that LTS baseline is scheduled for 30 Apr 2025.

I recommend Jenkins 2.502, scheduled to release tomorrow.  Weekly releases have been nicely stable for quite a while and some of the merged pull requests for Jenkins 2.502 would likely be backport candidates if we chose an earlier release.  Those pull requests include:
  • PR-10344 / JENKINS-75278 - Upgrade to Jetty 12.0.17 to fix User pages for users with '\' in the user name
  • PR-Upgrade to Jetty 12.0.17 to fix User pages for users with <code>'\'</code> in the user name fail - Upgrade spring framework to 6.2.4

Should have said:
  • PR-10344 / JENKINS-75278 - Upgrade to Jetty 12.0.17 to fix User pages for users with '\' (backslash) in the user name
  • PR-10398 - Upgrade Spring Framework from 6.2.3 to 6.2.4

Looks like Jetty 12.0.17 contained yet another regression, fixed yesterday in Jetty 12.0.18. We may need to upgrade to 12.0.18 and backport the upgrade, depending on the severity of the regression.

I also think that we'll need to upgrade to 12.0.18 based on the 12.0.18 changelog .  The fixes in 12.0.18 seem important enough to backport to the next Jenkins LTS line.

Jenkins 2.503 includes Jetty 12.0.18, a UI fix for a long-standing button placement issue, and a new extension point for the command line interface.  Jenkins 2.504 will release on Wednesday and will include one or more security fixes.

I think that we should choose 2.504 as the LTS baseline so that we don't need to backport the security fixes to an older line.  I've not seen any significant negative reports about 2.503.  We still have 4 weeks before the April 30, 2025 release date of the next LTS baseline.

Sounds good to me

Same here. I think  2.504 is good to avoid backports

Should we backport the fix for JENKINS-68155 from
https://github.com/jenkinsci/jenkins/pull/10501 to stable-2.504 at
some point? I notice it wasn't marked as an LTS candidate, but it is a
fix for a long-standing regression that looks like it might qualify
once it ships in a weekly release. If we don't have enough time to get
it into 2.504.1, maybe 2.504.2? Thoughts?

I think we should consider it for backport in 2.504.2.   It will be in the
weekly release next week and that will give us a few weeks of evaluation
time before the 2.504.2 backporting.

Agreed with Mark, we should backport the fix
