Populating User Object on creation (User.get)

Hey

I'm looking through the code for User.get("gavin", true) which will create the user if it doesn't already exist trying to find out if there's an extension point for populating a newly created user with values from an external source.

Is there any extension point I'm missing for populating a user on creation?
