On Friday October 29, 2010 - in Winnfield, Louisiana Officer Scott
Nugent was found Not-guilty in the tasering death of Baron "Scooter"
Pikes, sometimes referred to as Baron Collins. During the trial a
video was played of the incident, in which Pikes was told Nugent -
'you've killed me' and you're going to suffer' - to which Nugent could
be heard saying. ' you're not dead' - 'you're still alive' - In
response to 'you're going to suffer' - Nugent said 'you're not
threatening us, are you.'
The district attorney, Chris Nevils, at the beginning of the trial,
asked for a change of venue; in order to secure a fair jury. Black
perspective jurors were dismissed, because they had already, made an
opinion on Nugent's guilt during the jury selection.
It is not believed, that the Attorney General of the state of
Louisiana, will pick up the case. It is not believed that the US
Attorrney's Office in the Western District of Louisiana will pick up
the case. In each instance, there are specific reasons, why this is
thought.
The only possible, solution is the DA himself, either refile-ing
charges or Appealing the juries Acquittal on the jury composition
issue. There is a federal lawsuit for Pike's minor-child. That trial
will take place in federal court in Alexandria. IT IS HOPED THAT
DISTRICT ATTORNEY CHRIS NEVILS WILL PURSUE AN APPEAL OF THIS OUTCOME
OF NOT-GUILTY.
