Hey all:

I'm interested in attending/initiating something like this as well.
Let me know if anyone's got anything planned, and I'll gladly attend.

One thing that I've been pondering is the location. I like Acme Coffee
on SE 40th, just a couple doors north of Hawthorne - it could probably
handle about 12 people pretty easily on a normal weekday (they're new
and generally not packed) and has a bit of porch/outdoor space which
is nice. I saw something about Souk (NW/Chinatown) as well, but no
date posted. Have any other locations been discussed or tried out?

Ideas are welcome - I'd be happy to lead or follow, just trying to get
a sense of what's cooking.

Souk is a coworking place for rent. Right now, I’m not sure if they’ll
host a Jelly workday in Portland for free—but we can try contacting
them.

This is worth trying!

I have been a coworking practitioner (not necessarily affiliated with
Jelly) for a while, and generally like to hang out at either 1) Urban
Grind NW [NW 14th & Kearney St.] or 2) Backspace [NW 5th & Couch St.]

It stems from Twitter and our wonderful creative/tech community, where
in Portland I managed to find many other likeminded independents who
are in need of a workplace, each other’s expertise, and socializing
time all at the same time. Spots like Urban Grind, for example, on the
summer of ’08 managed to snag the spot for a favorite coworking place
whereby everytime you’d come in, you’d see anywhere from three to
fifteen (!) independents from Twitter who are collectively working on
their own stuff while casually enjoying each other’s company over
coffee.

Needless to say, the vibe was wonderful, and those sessions were a big
reason why I chose to stay in Portland.

Now that folks are so used to each other, the places got diversified
(and so are the people. There are not so much, for instance). For an
experiment, let’s try setting up something at Urban Grind again one of
these days, and I’m sure that we’ll be able to cowork.

Something on the jelly-in-portland page mentioned that Souk would
donate admission for the day for the Jelly - but no further
information. Sounds interesting, but not really a good long-term
prospect since it requires membership if we wanted to make it a
regular thing.

As for Urban Grind, I'm up for it! Let's try it out some day. Any
suggestions on a date, and is anyone else interested?
