After 3 years of maintenance, the branch 1.1 of Jelix is now closed. A
last micro version 1.1.12 is available, fixing a single bug. There
won't be anymore other release, except if some security holes are
discovered.
Until now, there was a minor release once a year or two years, which
was maintained until there is no more user feedback (about bugs or
various questions). For the branch 1.0 and 1.1, this period was about
3 years.
Then we decide that branches will be maintained officially three
years. Jelix 1.2 will be maintained until december 2013, and Jelix
1.3, until october 2014.
From now, we'll try to release more version, to reach 2 or 3 releases
a year. We took this decision, not to accelerate developments, but to
allow you to benefit new features faster.
However, we will have more and more branches to maintain. To avoid to
have too much work, only the last release of a year will be maintained
3 years (LTS, Long Term Service), others will be maintained one year
(STS, Short Term Service). For example, Jelix 1.4, which will be
released in few weeks, will be a STS version, and Jelix 1.5 (or 1.6),
which will be released at the end of the year, will be a LTS version.
For your projects, you could upgrade the Jelix library once a year, as
usual, after the release of the LTS version. You won't have more work
than for previous releases. But you'll have also the choice to upgrade
at each STS release, to benefit of new feature faster. These upgrades
will be easier since they won't have many new improvements.
