I have enscape running on one screen live updating while I'm working in revit on the other and then I lose selection visibility within Revit. This only happens when enscape is running. I go to select something and it does not highlight unless I zoom in or out. If I try to edit something I get stuck in the edit because I lose the ability to complete the command. Have to restart Revit to get it back to normal.

Thanks a lot for your report - in this case, please first off make sure that your Enscape is up to date, that your graphics card drivers are up to date, as well as your windows. If that doesn't help, it would be very helpful if you could submit a feedback report as described here. In the submission form either add a link to this thread or copy/paste the description of your problem please.

I'm afraid not it seems - this behavior should've been resolved quite a while ago as mentioned in the linked thread, so receiving your log files from the machine via the feedback report could be very helpful in order to identify the cause behind this issue.

Do you also experience the modify tab "growing" problem? If so, please also send in the journals as explained by Simon in the thread. The Revit version may not be 2015 of course, so please select the corresponding folder accordingly instead.

It seems to me that the best way to leverage BIM is to have standard drafting view details such as door jambs and other things that should be the same in 90% of the conditions the details might occur drawn in basic 2D drafting views and use model geometry as a guide in live views to draw details where specific conditions exist. Drawing everything including enlarged sections in 2D views is more of a CAD way of thinking and drawing and causes problems when things move or shift in the 3D model or in linked consultant models.

I do both. Our first BIM project did details in drafting views only, but as we developed efficiency in the software, almost all details are from a live view. If pressed for time, I'll often overlay a detail group of something (like a reveal or post connection) with white-out fields on top of a live view. This only works if what ever I drew does not need to be shown in other views.

The only exception is for stand alone details, often a 1:5 roof drain or expansion detail. We also build our wall assembly legend in a drafting view. Easier to make clear and pretty diagrams this way. Just need discipline if ever some wanker decides to get creative with the wall type names mid-project.

BIM in my experience should be about the process. Start with a live detail and cover pieces / connections with detail families as you develop the project. Standard details are not drafting views like the old cad days but detail families. Note ect. should be embeded in the detail families. One old cad detail may need to be broken into multiple Revit detail families for correct operation. Very few details, except boiler plate stand alone details should be simple drafting views. Wall assemblies as drafting views is dangerous for coordination. The more divisions you create between the model and the information displayed the more opportunities for errors. This conversation is really really hard to move upstream to the old guard who has their cad detail library they just want to copy and paste, It seems like the simple answer but becomes a big problem when down the road there are differences between the model and drafted details. Clash detection, consultant coordination, rendering, take offs, are all junk and nearly impossible if you are using primarily drafted details. The bulk of the information should be modeled. additional information is added through drafting.

Thanks for the insights, think my coworkers for the project I am on part time are just stuck in the old CAD ways of thinking. I always like to take a moment and ask how can I use the BIM Like master Yoda asking Luke to use the force, before starting in on a task. It is frustrating when you know how to make Revit do it but your team wants to do it the analog CAD way.

Hi,
I would like to control exported objects from Revit to Speckle by assigning a parameter value to objects.
It works in general but seem to fail on Mass Floor Category. Shared parameter is assigned to both Mass and corresponding Mass Floors but only Mass is exported.

The export by parameter option has been replaced in 2.14 by a more powerful alternative that uses the Revit filters, have you tried that?
You probably need to update your connectors let me know how it goes!

Hi @teocomi ,
Thank you for your reply. I have now upgraded and tested new filter functionality. I might have to do few more tests but from what I see sadly the filter option does not seem to export mass/mass floors from links that satisfy filter condition.

All give a little bit more background to what I am trying to achieve.
We have a masterplan project with multiple buildings modelled as masses with mass floors.
We collaborate with other architects and some plots/buildings are modelled as links that we receive from them. Some buildings are as live mass (with multiple design options).
What I would like to achieve is to export mass and mass floors elements only. Some of those will come from links some of those will come from particular design option from live model.

The only option that seem to work for me is the selection where I can select both links and live masses.
But the slight issue with this method is that it exports entire content of a link rather than just mass and mass floors and ideally we would limit exported data to only those elements.

Hi Matteo,
Thank you that is great news. I have now tested it and indeed it does work !
There is one improvement that I would very much welcome which is ability to send mass and mass floors from linked files. In my file I have both mass/mass floors modelled live and mass and mass floors in linked files which makes it slightly more complicated. I have tested few scenarios of exporting it to a single stream:

Please let me know if you do find a way of exporting mass floors from both live model and linked file that would help a lot. Maybe dynamo?
I think the only way now would be opening each individual link and exporting those separately and combining streams together in speckle (I think it is possible to combine streams together ). But it would be much longer process.

Hi @teocomi ,
Returning to this issue after being inspired by all fantastic stuff shown on the Specklecon.
Very motivated to make it work buy sadly more issues:
I have now explored option of exporting the linked models separately to different branches and than merging it all together in power bi to display all masterplan masses and mass floors in one visual.

Another issue with coordinates and linked models is sometimes there are scenarios where the same model is placed twice or more on the site. Repetitive housing schemes for example. (it can have two or more shared coordinates.) Seems like only one instance of link is being exported to Speckle currently.
See example link placed twice:

Does this relate to the feature request I described here: Geolocation in Speckle stream - #14 by JdB?
Because we have a team who expressed the need to receive on the The project base point and have the incoming geometry rotated based on the True North.

Not yet. There have many other such issues and we had a full workshop on geolocation / coordinate reference systems / base point et al. at the company retreat last month. (can you believe the passion it invoked?)

Hi,There are three components that are required to run the LiveSync connection:1. Revit2. the Lumion plugin (downloaded from here which ensures a connection)3. Lumion (the main application)The role of the plugin is to seamlessly transfer the information from the CAD software to Lumion. However, although the plugin is free, the main application can be obtained as a trial, a student version, or a commercial version. If you need any more assistance, please reach out to our support team here: -us/articles/360042039073

We downloaded and installed the 'free' Lumion add-in. (Revit 2023) when we pressed the play button a digi box appeared stating could not run in this version and must upgrade. Fine, clicked on it but then it takes you to the Lumion home page which is a paid sub...so Free is very misleading.

I have circular spaces in my project, in revit it looks smooth round without edges, but when ı throw it to the lumıon to render, the polygon numbers decrease and look diagonal. Is there a solution?I already set the parameter "smoothing surface" on high but the results is still bad.

Hi MarlenaThanks for asking. You can use LiveSync For Revit with student editions of Revit. Please contact Lumion Technical Support to assist (see links top right or at top of the product description).

Na hora de salvar o arquivo no aparece algumas opces como por exemplo salvar cenas, salvar modeloes e cenas... E depois do salvamento no possivel abrir o arquivo mais. Esse o unico problema que aparece, fora isso esse software otimo!
