What do you want YOUR Student Council to Be

[Jefferson Student Council]

Write in and give me your thoughts on what you think Student Council
and Jefferson should be all about. Should we:

- be more like a student governing body?
- work on school improvement?
- simply plan dances?

This is YOUR group - I want to know what you want out of it!!!

well, I'm not sure about the details, but we need to be much more than
just a group that plans dances. I mean, yeah it is fun, but as the
Student Council I think it should be our job to do much more.

We are a group that is suppost to represent the entire school, so
therefore we should work on improving the school for everyones
betterment. I also believe that as the representatives of the school
we should work to better the school in general. Though I am not sure
on complete details yet, I think that we need to work at making the
student council an influential group, unlike how it was when I joined
as a freshman (being the only freshman who came, with only juniors and
seniors present)

When I think about the role of student council, I think towards what I
know from Japanese culture (it being my obsession). There, the student
council is a respected group that works for the entire school, both
planning events, helping the school, and improving their local
community. Now I'm not saying that we need to be exactly like that,
but I do believe that we need to be more directly involved in the
school, so that when future elections come about, my fellow classmates
do not ask what the student council is.
