Greetings fans of the written word!

Sorry for the delay in announcing the May meeting. It took the
library a while to get back to us on our request for scheduling. It
is now official:

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 7th at 7PM in the 2nd floor
Gallery at the Missouri River Regional Library in Jefferson City.

Several suggestions were made for the meeting and we decided on two
that might be interesting and get the creative juices flowing.

1.]We decided to ask each member to write and bring to the May
meeting a 200 to 300 word piece on the theme of conflict conveyed in a
manner that does not necessarily outwardly express conflict - like
physical violence or overtly hostile language. This can be in any
genre, such as short story, play, creative non-fiction, essay, poem,
etc or a fragment of any of the above. Members can read these pieces
to the group by way of introducing your style of writing and the type
of genre you prefer. Please don’t be self-conscious about this. We
are all learning and communicating our ideas. Exercises like this
help not only the author, but the other members as well.

2] Also members will be encouraged to bring a picture that they think
might inspire a creative writing project. If it is agreeable to all,
we could use these pictures for a free writing exercise during the
meeting. I find these free writing exercises very helpful and even
have used a couple of them to develop into later full blown
projects.

Summer is bearing down upon us. This is usually the time when it
becomes hard to keep meetings going, what with vacations and all. I
personally am especially looking forward to this time, as there are no
writing classes at Lincoln U to keep me writing. Yes, I really need
those deadlines.

Finally, what I would really like to hear from you all is:

What kind of activities would you like to have at the meetings?

Would you prefer to have more activities directed over the Internet?

Some combination?

I am posting this announcement on both the MeetUp site and the Google
group. I hope you will move your collective butts over to the new
Google group so we can all be on the same page (screen) so to speak.

Thanks for your support!
