Dear All,
I have no words to say to you all. I am filled with sentiments by seeing such a
good support from your side for a person whom you don't know. You'll are like an
angel in Piyush's life. And I will not forgot to mention a name here "Miss
Bhavna Saini, A Student, an special girl with special quality, who made her day
and night one to get help for Piyush. I salute her. I'd like to share the
details of all kind supporters. I'd also like to share some details about
Piyush and his family.
Mr. Ramanand's 10 month old son - Piyush (date of birth- 08 May 2010-World Thalassemia day also)was diagnosed as a case of beta thalassemia major when he he was only 30 days old at Sir ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, and he was on blood transfusion support since he was 01 month old.
Since to manage a thalassemic child is very difficult, as he can survive only on blood transfusion support after an interval of 15-25 days, also mentallly child and as well as family members also living in tension as the age increase complications after blood transfusion starts like iron overload in body. The only curative treatment for this is bone marrow transplant but only few opt for this because it is expensive and is very difficult to find a donor match.
But in case of Piyush, they were lucky to find their own elder son (Prateek - Pics Attached) a 100% match (HLA 100%Matched with his brother 3 yrs old, and planned for bone marrow transplant with all round support from people like you.
Bone marrow transplant takes a long time it follows heavy dose of chemotherapy for first 7 days, which causes side effects like fall of hair, pigmentation of color,frequent stool, vomitting change of body color etc,,and then stem cell transplant, after stem cell transplant is completed it takes 10-15 days to produce new blood cells.Piyush was admitted at Apollo Speciality Hospital on 7 March 2011 and is still in Hospital under observation, although the new stem cell has started producing blood cells, I hope he will be discharged within 3-4 days by gods grace as WBC count has increased to 2300 within 3 days and can be only discharged when WBC Count reaches to 5000.
After he is discharged from hospital , a lot of care to be taken at home , like he is to be kept in isolation , no visitor to be allowed to see him to avoid infection, he can not visit public places upto an year.Also if any small infection is caught for more than 2 hrs eg.cough, sneezing,fever ,, immediately to be admitted to hospital to rescue him.
Also Piyush has to go for weekly routine tests upto first three months after discharge and will be on medication minimum for an year.

Mr. Ramanand is speechless to talk about the help received from your end,, it was only god who sent you to assist him in rescuing Piyush's life.
In view of the pain Mr Ramanand have got he would like to share brief detail about the disease to creat awareness-
Thalassemia is genetic disease in which blood is not produced in the
body ,If two carriers (for thalassemia gene )marry then there is a chance
of 25% of birth of a thalassemia child in each pregnancy,, this disease
can be prevented only when when you know your status for thalassemia i.e.
whether you are a caarier for thalassemia or not, if not no need to worry and
if yes pls check ur husband/wifes status and if u both r found to be carrier
for this , then please consult a Hematologist(you can know your status by
checking your HbA2 status - a simple blood test). In my opinion gynaecologist
should make this test mandatory (like HIV) to prevent birth of another
Thalassemic child.
