I'm using Ubuntu 9.04. This problem occurs running JDarkRoom in both
Sun's Java VM and in OpenJDK. Both are Version 6.

The message bar at the bottom of the screen has a white background.
I'm thinking this should probably be black, since the text that
appears in the message bar is light green, like all the rest. I can
change that color by changing my GTK2 settings, in System->Preferences-
>Appearance; but I'm pretty sure that JDarkRoom should look like a
darkroom regardless of how I set my system colors.

On the JDarkRoom page there are instructions for getting rid of the
white background.
suppress.native.look.and.feel=true

if I remember correctly.

That worked, although the instructions on the JDarkRoom page are a
tiny bit misleading. On my system (Ubuntu 9.04), there was no folder
called 'conf'; jdarkroom stored its properties in '~/.jdarkroom' by
default.

Someone should probably change the instructions to reflect this.

Oh, and it would be nice to have a checkbox in the program to disable
native look and feel. I think it should be the default.

Hi LogicalDash,

Thanks for the feedback, I'll update the instructions.

The consequences of disabling native look and feel would be that the
default java look and feel would be used - which at last check didn't
work very well with the new settings system. I'm aware however that
the new settings screen has problems on some macs etc, so I've got a
code patch for the next release.

Having a just-turned-one baby daughter is soaking up most of my free
time, however!

Cheers,

Duncan.
