Hi,

Im exploring the subject of a compute service for Azure in Jclouds.
I did some small analysis on the current implementation of Azure in Jclouds and i could distinct 3 maven projects. One Commons, Management and a blob project.

I thought about creating a new maven project for the compute service and implement the computeInterface but then i noticed that compute was already partially implemented in the managements project. I also found all the rest call to azure.
Is it the better way to extend the current codebase in the management project or is it needed to make a new computeservice project, and if so how do i tie it to the management layer? (pom of Guice).

The goal initially is to start/stop, create and destroy instances and maybe upload a Ubuntu VM with blobstorage and than start it through the compute service.

I was hoping if someone can help me get started in the right direction?
Can tell me what a good fast method is to test the implemtation in jcloud NEXT to unit tests? Apache Ace?
What is a good approach of running scripts? Without programming worker processes in visual studio

ps. Im hoping Adrian will read this :D

thanks a million!
Frank

Hi, Frank.

azure-management is indeed pretty far along the way of getting a
compute service going. The compute/functions package and
AzureManagementComputeServiceAdapter are as yet only stubbed out, but
this is definitely something you can help us catch up on. There are
also quality issues to catch up on, which might be a nice way to get
warmed up.

For testing outside unit tests, yeah you can use something in
jclouds-examples, ace, whirr, pallet, etc.

interested in moving over to jclouds-dev and picking up the axe?
Cheers,
-A

Adrian,

Im not sure my Java knowledge will be suffice to build the Azure compute component. I already have a hard time figuring out how it works and what i need to communicate with Azure.
We havent decided yet on picking up the build so im currently defining the amount of work and let my manager decide what to do.

Access to the def room would be great but i cant guarantee you would get anything usefull for it in return ;)

best regards,
Frank
