On the hottest day this summer, four of us rode from Penn Station Newark to the outskirts of Philly

I did it through just about Princeton, when my battery died. As far as the route goes, we started taking the greenway but after ~4 hours, I realized we had not covered that much distance, about 35 m. I looked at the map and noticed 27 ran south to Trenton and kind of followed the greenway so I switched to on-rode route. From what I can see on the map, I recommend taking 27S. You'll miss out on the scenery but you'll finish in a reasonable time.
