JBPM message event and KIE server API

Hello BPM developers,

I have the attached representation of BPM diagram. I have a message event in the process, how do I correlate the message to process instance.

I have been trying to get details of API from docs which will allow me to send the message to a process instance just like Signal.

 
My requirement was to have a one to one mapping and hence using intermediate message catch event and not signal.

Is this possible via out of the box KIE API or do I have to write my own implementation that will help me correlate to the message?
Any help or references might help.
