Hi to all,

I was wondering, when selecting a version control system to be used
for T24 development,
someone would choose:
1. Version Control System - NDCS Front Office Technologies
or
2. Version Control System - Official Website of SOFGEN

instead of others that are free on the Internet.
ie. what is specific for T24 into the above packages that are missing
from other packages.

Thanks a lot
Despina

Source code control systems are very difficult things to write (at least correctly) such that they help rather than hinder the development process. The only one that I tell anyone to use is Perforce, which costs money, but costs money for a reason and if you are a bank, you should be willing to spend a reasonable amount of money securing the banking software ;-) Don't even think about things that require Oracle databases and administrators.

Of the free ones available, only SVN is really any good and that is not so hot compared to perforce. While working on various contracts I have been forced to use a number of free SCCS systems including SVN (Ok for free), mercurial (abysmal), git (meah) and so on. In the case of mercurial, it once prevented anyone from checking anything in for days while the databases were sorted out; don't go near it - anything written in Python... well my views on functional/dynamic languages are well known.

I do not really know anything about your options 1 and 2 below (though I think that I might have actually written some C code for 2 to work :-), and though I know and like the people at Sofgen, I think you would have to do some strenuous testing and verification of anything other than SVN or perforce.

So, basically my advice is to do yourselves a favor and just go buy perforce. Please tell them that I sent you and that they should therefore give me a free upgrade ;-)

Hi,

Question is interesting and tools made specifically for T24 so
expensive...

Please think of what you need first. Many people say that they need T24
Version Control System, but this is not enough. Most of you T24 guys :)
needs T24 Release Management Tool (which includes some versioning
system).

There are some choices on the market, but too much expensive in my
opinion (please pass my opinion to Sofgen and few other vendors).

I wish T24 community built its own Release Management Tool one day.
Errrgh... Which community? :)

Kind regards
Pawel

NB. See you in Berlin at TCF 2010.

I remind you of my earlier statement:

I do like how this sounds if you assume it is English:
