Returning with more XMAS JAZZ fun (and terrible jokes), Larry Berkovitz and Zak Barrett are back with members of their much acclaimed jazz band em@il special AND two stunning special guests ... the renowned multi-instrumentalist Adam Mader on everything and the stunning Andy Frost, a brilliant drummer and exceptional voice percussionist (beatbox+). This year Larry & Zak will also welcome a new young talent to the stage - Dom Copestick - a sneak preview of one of tomorrow’s jazz musicians!
Larry and Zak collaborated for many years arranging for and performing with em@il special – the little band with the big band sound - bringing fresh and unique arrangements of Jazz standards to enthusiastic audiences in Chelmsford, London and beyond! In recent years, however, the collaboration has concentrated on the now legendary XMAS Jazz seasons which have become a regular sell-out fixture at Chelmsford’s newly refurbished intimate Cramphorn Theatre.  Be sure not to miss this year’s XMAS JAZZ special - please reserve early!

11th November - Blues Abuse:  http://www.bluesabuse.com/Blues_Abuse/Welcome.html

Steve Morrison vocals and guitar, Alan Glen harmonica and Al Hughes drums.   Back at Marigolds by popular demand this oiginal 3 piece blues combo is led by guitarist Steve Morrison and features virtuoso harmonica playing by Alan Glen (ex Yardbird) and the creative but always sensitive rhythms of Al Hughes on drums. Steve has developed a guitar technique that enables him to play lead, rhythm and bass at the same time (it has to be seen to be believed) creating driving rhythms complementing his slide-guitar. All three play in a variety of line-ups featuring brilliant musicians but together they are the sensational Blues Abuse.

25th November - Marigolds All Stars: Nick Newall sax, Carol Brathwaite vocals, Tim Huskinson keyboards, Rod Curphey bass, Martin Guy drums

Nick Newell’s list of musical credits include playing with The Kinks, Zoot Money’s Big Roll Band, Dave Devani, The Mike Cotton Sound, Satisfaction, RD Crusaders, the Roy Young Band and Dark Blues. When Nick was asked which musician he’d like to swap places for one night only, he replied most profoundly, ”I would just like to be me…only better.”
Carol Brathwaite has sung with Jazz bands in and around Essex, London and Kent and has shared the stage with a wealth of fabulous musicians. She covers songs from all the great singers of jazz, dating from the 20’s through to the 50’s from Ella, Peggy, Billie, Doris, Rosemary, Bessie, Ottilie …
A self-taught pianist from a young age, Tim Huskinson has had a varied career that has involved playing with a lot of famous musicians. A chance meeting in 1989 led to regular work with entertainer Brian Conley where Tim became his musical director for theatre tours, and summer season shows and TV appearances, shows at the London Palladium and a performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Tim was offered the position of Deputy M.D. for ‘Jolson – The Musical’ at London’s Victoria Palace, and toured with comedian Joe Pasquale. From 1998 to 2000, toured Europe as MD for the Rocky Horror Show.
Latterly dedicating himself entirely to the music that first inspired him, Tim has established himself as one of the busiest musicians on the Jazz club circuit. Playing Vintage and Modern styles on piano and clarinet, he has worked with far too many famous people to list here.
Rod Curphey has had a long and varied career playing double bass from Trad to dance bands from electric blues, rock and pop via ocean cruses to Bebop.
Martin Guy on drums needs no introduction to Marigolds having played here on countless occasions. Again a musician who has had a long and varied career.

9th December - The John Edmonds Blues Band: http://johnedmonds.org.uk/

John Edmonds guitar, Dr Ika guitar, Roger Woods drums and John Kaethner bass.  Back at Marigolds after fantastic gigs in recent years the JEBB play classic guitar based blues of all types, albeit in their own indomitable style.

Fronted by two experienced axe men in John Edmonds and Dr Ika you will have to go a long way to find two such fine and talented guitarists in the one band backed by such a tight driving rhythm section in Roger and John. None of their arrangements are set in stone and it is generally a case of seeing what happens on the night and it does generally happen.  John can lay claim to fame for making two appearances on Top of the Pops; being on the same show as the Hollies and the Beatles; appearing with Tom Jones at the Playhouse theatre during a live radio broadcast of Easy Beat. John was also a member of the 1968 cult blues band “Glass Opening” whose records are selling for 100’s pounds on eBay.  With a live sound that is full of energy and creativity, JEBB embraces all type of blues that is always fresh and spontaneous. Don’t miss an excellent night's entertainment by a really good tight band displaying a wealth of variety and interest.
