from that era. Recently awarded 'Entertainer of the Year' award by
Italian six star cruise line 'Silversea'. Pete has performed at private
parties for His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales at Highgrove House

21st March – Tina May
Tina May - vocals Chris Ingham – piano George Double – drums Arnie Somogyi – double bass
Real jazz singers flourish in the company of good jazz musicians,
and Tina May is a real jazz singer. She can sing a straight melody and
make it open like a flower. She can swing effortlessly and invent a
wordless scat chorus as tricky as anything her fellow musicians can
deliver. Led by pianist Chris Ingham, they are among the best jazz
musicians you will find anywhere.
28th March – The Rag & Bone Club
Helen Holder – vocals Stephen Large – piano Ben Cummings – trumpet
Lucy Shaw – double bass Niall Oates – tenor sax Andy Jones – drums
Dominic Ashworth – guitar
This highly entertaining 7 piece is fronted by classy singer Hazel
Holder who has West End and Broadway shows under her belt and is

Caro Emerald, Rebecca Ferguson and Duffy as well as MD/keyboard player
for Paul Heaton/Jackie Abbott, Imelda May, Clare Teal, Martha Reeves and
Rod Stewart. He's taken over Jools Holland’s role as keyboard player in
Squeeze. Describing themselves enigmatically as ‘itinerant dealers in
second-hand soundings and muggled melodiousness!’, The Rag and Bone Club
deliver an outstanding performance of musical excellence with a
keen reference to the music of the 1930s and 40s swing era. The band is
influenced by jazz aristocrats such as Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, Ella
Fitzgerald, Ramsey Lewis, Chet Baker and Nat King Cole. They are
all experienced musicians having worked with legendary artists including
Kenny Ball, The Humphrey Littleton Band, Paul Mc Cartney, Stevie Wonder

is no stranger to the Club having guested on several occasions and has a
wealth of experience from playing alongside noted legends on the jazz
scene. His music career started in the world of brass bands that
progressed through to playing with bands both mainstream and traditional
with such jazz legends as Humphrey Littleton, Freddie Randall, Bruce
Adams and Mike Cotton.
Cliff Mason also began his
musical career in the world of brass bands before being introduced to
the Ken Turner Band in 1987 immediately taking to jazz like a duck to
water. He still continues to lead the trombone section of the Ken Turner
Band and is also a member of the Shades of Swing Big Band.
With
these two trombone exponents we look forward to an evening of favourite
trombone tunes and I would not be surprised if such tunes as Caravan,
Mood Indigo, Harlem Nocturne, Moonglow, Moonlight Serenade, and In a
Mellow Tone were not subjected to some special trombone treatment

A commanding player with a big sound and an engaging stage manner, Dean is, very much “Old School”. 14th March – Pete Neighbours’ All Stars Quintet
Pete Neighbour – clarinet Dave Newton - piano Nat Steele - vibes Dave Green - double bass Steve Brown – drums
Now residing in South Carolina but originally from East London, Pete
has performed extensively over Europe, North America, Australia and
Asia. He is one of very few jazz musicians to reach a wider audience by
performing as a Headline Guest Entertainer on luxury cruise ships
focussing focuses particularly on the 'Swing era' with music and stories
from that era. Recently awarded 'Entertainer of the Year' award by
Italian six star cruise line 'Silversea'. Pete has performed at private
parties for His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales at Highgrove House
and for Sir Michael Caine, Mick Jagger and venues such as London’s The
Royal Festival Hall, New York’s Lincoln Centre, The Orient Express, The
House of Lords and Scottish Baronial castles.
Winner of the 2014 British Jazz Awards for Best Pianist again for the 13th year Dave Newton
is the Big Screen Take One pianist/narrator and appears with all the
top musicians including Derek Nash, Tina May, Stacey Kent, Claire Martin
and Marion Montgomery to name just a few!
Described by Clark Tracey ‘As one of the best vibes players this country has ever produced’ Nat Steele’s Quartet is regularly featured on the Late Show at Ronnie Scott’s and is known for swinging mainstream and bebop jazz.
Winner in the 2015 British Jazz Awards for Best Bassist, Dave
has toured with Charlie Watts to USA, Brazil and Japan. He’s been part
of the Scott Hamilton Quartet for the last sixteen years. It's easy to
see why he has become one of the bass players in the world. Joined the
Chris Barber Band in 2007.
Winner of the 2014 British Jazz Awards for Best Drummer, one of the foremost drummers in the UK Steve Brown
quickly established himself on the Jazz scene in London. Hugely popular
with jazz audiences everywhere Steve has become 'first call' for an
impressive array of jazz stars with his assured swinging playing.
Holder who has West End and Broadway shows under her belt and is
currently resident director on the West End musical ‘Dream Girls’. The
band is led by pianist Stephen Large who has been musical director for
Caro Emerald, Rebecca Ferguson and Duffy as well as MD/keyboard player
for Paul Heaton/Jackie Abbott, Imelda May, Clare Teal, Martha Reeves and
Rod Stewart.
They are
all experienced musicians having worked with legendary artists including
Kenny Ball, The Humphrey Littleton Band, Paul Mc Cartney, Stevie Wonder
as well as playing with The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Pee Wee Ellis and
Jamie Cullum. Reservation essential!

Tues 27th March, 2018 TRIUMPHANT TROMBONES featuring DEREK CLENSHAW & CLIFF MASON, trombones, with resident trio of Hilary Cameron, keys, Ted Simkins, bass and Dave Grant, kit.
Derek Clenshaw
is no stranger to the Club having guested on several occasions and has a
wealth of experience from playing alongside noted legends on the jazz
Tuesday, 24th April, 2018 - IT’S GOTTA BE SWING featuring AL NICHOLLS, tenor, and ANDY DICKENS,
trumpet with resident trio of Hilary Cameron, keys, Ted Simkins, bass
and Dave Grant, kit. Al Nicholls makes another welcome return to the
Club this time with long time cohort and guest Andy Dickens. Al needs
very little introduction other than to say he has a busy schedule
gigging, with leading his exciting Blue Harlem band and playing lead
tenor sax of the widely acclaimed, highly revered T.J. Johnson Quintet
that is transcending the boundaries of jazz, blues, soul and country
music.
Andy Dickens, a freelance jazz trumpeter /
flugelhorn, with a penchant for an occasional vocal, plays all the jazz
genres you can wish for. His lively style and playing has made him a
frequent guest at European Jazz festivals encountering such legends as
Slim Gaillard, Ken Peplowski, Humphrey Littleton, Bruce Turner, Pete
Allen and Jonathan Vinten groups. He is often featured with other bands
and musicians where his tunes, off beat observations and typically wry
presen- tation results in an evening that is entertaining and draws from
the finest traditions of jazz.
Tuesday, 29th May, 2018 - MANCINI MAGIC featuring PAUL HIGGS, trumpet, and JOHN WITHERS, kit, with resident duo of Hilary Cameron, keys, Ted Simkins, bass.
Paul Higgs,
a multi-instrumentalist marvel, returns by popular demand on his
trumpet, to portray his understanding of the magic associated with Henry
Mancini’s music. A master of composition, particularly for screen
themes, Mancini’s artistry, will no doubt be fully explored by Paul with
such tunes as ‘Moon River’, ‘Pink Panther’, ‘Days of Wine and Roses’,
‘Charade’, ‘How Soon’, Dreamsville and others.
John Withers,
no stranger to the Club, in the absence of Dave, will accompany Paul
with his al- ways immaculate percussion timing completing the rhythm
section for tonights gig.
Tuesday, 26th June, 2018 - IT’S DIXIE TIME featuring TIM HUSKISSON, keys, and JIM DOUGLAS, guitar, with resident duo of Ted Simkins, bass and Dave Grant, kit.
Tim Huskisson,
another multi-instrumentalist is no stranger to the Club, is a self
taught musician becoming inspired with jazz after first hearing it on
78rpm records, now how early was that ! Latterly he has dedicated
himself by keeping alive the music that first inspired him on the local
jazz circuits, Tonight Tim, as in the title, Dixie, will be in his
element exploring the 1920’s tunes like ‘At the Jazz Band Ball’, ‘Back
Home in Indiana’, ‘After You’ve Gone’, ‘Avalon’ and others.
Jim Douglas
formed his first jazz band at school, initially in the ‘skiffle’ genre,
and by fifteen had acquired a guitar and banjo and, along with his
clarinetist friend Pete Kerr, formed the ‘Hidden Town Dixie-Leaders’ and
when an engagement in Germany required them to turn professional,
changed their name to ‘Capital Jazz’. He played with highly successful
‘Clyde Valley Stompers’’, that sadly broke up, leaving Jim playing
occasional gigs with the renowned ‘Alex Welsh Band’, officially joining
in 1964, remaining a stalwart for eighteen years up until the death of
Alex Walsh.

There'll also be some surprising choices from lesser known jazz figures.
