A new Jazz Jam night at the Forester's Arms, Colchester. Held on the last Thursday of every month. Members of the band of the parachute regiment Big Band are hosting an evening of Jazz where they will play a short set of music until they open up the floor to anyone who wants to Jam, any ability. performed the fanfare for the 2000 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in
Sydney and has been appointed as a Member The Order of Australia for his

TJ Johnson is widely considered to be one of the UK’s most charismatic highly revered jazz and blues singers. Backed by his group of top London based musicians, TJ plays an extraordinary blend of music that transcends the boundaries of jazz, blues, soul and country and is influenced by some of the greats such as Ray Charles, Dr John, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Cash, BB King, Nina Simone, Alberta Hunter, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Witherspoon and many more. His distinctive voice and unique personal stage manner always brings both the band and the audience together to create an intimate yet exciting atmosphere that is rarely equalled TJ and his band have toured extensively both in the UK and overseas for over twenty years and now while still maintaining a high profile at international festivals and venues, he is also very involved in the vibrant London music scene. We welcome back leading saxophonist Derek Nash, a featured soloist with the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, and his fabulous Latin/Salsa band to the Belvedere. Co-founded with guitarist Dominic Ashworth, who was awarded Jazz Guitarist of the Year in 2006, they are joined by world-renowned, master percussionist and leader of King Salsa Robin Jones plus Marc Cecil, the drummer with King Salsa and other Latin bands. On the keyboards is Latin-maestro Neil Angilley who has previously appeared at the club with Julian Marc Stringle. This stellar line-up is completed by the bass of Andy Staples who plays and records with several leading UK bands.

today. His phrasing is unashamedly emotional, soaked in the blues
tradition."
Originally from Australia Brandon has been based in
London for the past 16 years and worked with very many varied artists
and groups. He also works as a session musician, composer and arranger
for commercial music and films where his playing has been featured on
films including "Alfie" (2004) and "The Look of Love" (2013). He
regularly hosts the Late Late Show at Ronnie Scotts with his quartet.
Brandon is the founder and director of the Highgate Jazz with Soul
Festival and has toured the UK, Europe and Asia with the Kyle Eastwood
Band. He has conducted masterclasses and private tuition at The Sydney
Conservatorium (Australia), LIPA (Liverpool), The London Contemporary
College of Music, the Cambridge Jazz Co-op and various venues around
the UK and Australia whilst on tour.

My recent weekend at South Downs Holiday Village sold out so as well as returning there next Spring and Autumn, I have been offered a third weekend in June 'FROM DIXIELAND TO SWING'.
Make a note in your diaries of three more weekends of Swing, Hot Jazz and Cabaret in 2017 at the same great venue: March 10/11/12, July 7/8/9 and October 20/21/22.
Warners Thorseby Hall Hotel in Nottinghamshire have asked me to present a four day music event on May 15th,16th,17th,18th 2017. The line-up will include the Bateman Brothers' Ultimate Louis Armstrong Show - with guests Enrico Tomasso and 'Spats' Langham, the Tuxedo Jazz Orchestra, the Tony Jacobs Big Band, the American and British Songbook Show, the Swing Time Jivers and daytime events which will include a tea-dance, a dance workshop and cabaret. Saxophone Workshop - The workshop aims to develop saxophone technique and performance in a friendly creative environment. Each class explores saxophone and musicianship skills that will enhance the individual and group performer. This includes music theory, methods of practise, sight reading, improvisation, aural work, and specific concepts to increase your knowledge on the saxophone. This is worked concurrently with a repertoire of saxophone music from different genres of music with a focus on Classical and Jazz.

Weekly Saturday Jazz Workshops in Orpington (SE London) for anyone, any age, on any instrument, interested in developing their improvising skills and musicianship. It is a practical, performance based approach to learning in a supportive, inclusive and nurturing group. Through the playing and study of standard jazz repertoire we cover some of the essential requirements for improvising including ear training, rhythmic skills, developing your harmonic understanding, learning transcriptions of some classic recordings and building a jazz vocabulary. By better understanding the process of playing jazz and your role in the group and by using a variety of different practice methods and approaches you can gain confidence in your improvising. British and International Vocal (Jazz) Academy (BIVJA) workshop course is a high quality enterprise implementing the skills and experience of a full rhythm section. The Julian Joseph Jazz Academy runs weekly in Hackney on Saturday afternoons, under the artistic direction of internationally renowned jazz pianist and composer Julian Joseph, offering talented young instrumentalists and vocalists aged 11-24, the opportunity to work with acclaimed jazz artists to develop their skills through a curriculum underpinned by an introduction to the American roots of jazz.
The Hertfordshire Music Service and North Herts Youth Jazz run the North Herts Youth Jazz Big Band rehearse Tues evenings, term time, at The North Herts Music School, Highbury House, Highbury Road, Hitchin SG4 9RU 01462 434052. Up to age 19. Improvisers welcome but guidance and instruction will be given to all who wish it. They will perform at least once in public each term to promote the playing of jazz amoung youth. There is a termly fee.
Essex Music Services, part of Essex County Council provide ” Quality instrumental tuition and workshops .. , covering all major orchestral and band instruments and musical styles”. One of the youth orchestras is The Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra (EYJO) for young musicians with a love for jazz with a min of grade 5 – audition entry. Meet monthly for rehearsals and also go on tour.
