What are some good albums that are just guitar and piano duets?

There are at least two from Jim Hall and Bill Evans. Joe Pass and Oscar
Peterson did a duet album of Porgy and Bess, but Peterson is playing a
clavichord and not a piano. Can't think of any others off the top of my
head, but I'm sure somebody will.

That is one of my all-time favorites, of any genre, any
instrumentation.

The Jim Hall and Bill Evans albums are 'Undercurrent"
and 'Intermodulation' - both are quite good -
incredible communication and interaction between them.

There is also one with Benny Green and Russell Malone
called 'These are soulful days' - which has Christian
McBride (I think) on bass which is also very good.

Russell Malone has recorded two albums with Benny Green with the
guitar/piano duet combination.

They are: "Bluebird" (2004 Telarc) and "Jazz at the Bistro" (2003
Telarc). This one was live in St. Louis. I prefer the studio
recording over the live. The live version has some recording
engineer problems for my tastes. Others have absolutely raved about
this version though.

Another one you might check into is Benny Green's "Naturally" (2000)
which is a trio format with Russell Malone on guitar and Christian
McBride on Bass. It is kind of nice to get Christian McBride out of
his funky band and hear him in this format for a change.

Benny Green and Russell Malone first performed in public as a duo at
the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland in 2001.

They do a few gigs and tours each year it seems. Last year they went
to Brazil and Japan together.

The "Naturally" album was Benny Green's first as a leader with Telarc.

Benny's association with Christian McBride goes way back to their
younger days when they were in the "Jazz Futures" together which also
included Roy Hargrove on trumpet and Carl Allen on drums and Mark
Whitfield on guitar.

In the trio format, another Benny Green CD that Russell Malone and
Christian McBride recorded is "These are Soulful Days" (1999 Blue
Note). It is dedicated to Blue Note's 60th anniversary and the
selections are "drawn from Blue Note's vast, treasured library of
jazz originals."

These are some of my favorites that I would not be without. In fact,
my daughter, the jazz pianist and Benny Green lover, owns her own
copies separately from mine!

Hope this info is helpful.

I don't know whether this stimuated the discussion, but Pat Metheny and Brad Mehldau just released a CD this week (called "Metheny/Mehldau") that is a set of duets. Only two of the songs on the disc have bass and drums. I'm just starting to listen to it. Although I pretty much dig anything that Metheny does, I really like what I've heard.

I second 3 that were already mentioned:

Pat Martino & Gil Goldstein - We'll Be Together Again (my fav of these 3)

Bill Evans & Jim Hall - Undercurrent

Russell Malone & Benny Green - Live at the Bistro (I find they do more
than just jazz in this one)

"The Things You See" by Allan Holdsworth & Gordon Beck,
mostly acoustic. Released in 1979, I'm still loving this record.

McLaughlin and Katia Labeque have also recorded some
interesting duos. Ditto:

The new Metheny-Mehldau is very good, and there's a Don Thompson-Ed
Bickert duo CD on Sackville, with Don playing mostly piano.
