I like Eminence speakers for the price. I'm not familiar with the Beta
8A, but I've never heard an Eminence speaker I didn't like, and they
hold up very good. Any amp you like is worth a decent speaker. My only
problem with Roland amps is I seem to remember them being metric, and
nostandard, and so you may need a Roland replacement (which sucks). Make
sure the speaker will fit without having to pull out a router!

best,
Bobby

I am looking for replacement speakers for a JC 55. They are 8 inch, 8 ohms. Someone has recommended Eminence Beta 8A. I got this amp off ebay for $150. Is it worth it to spend this much for replacements? The speakers that came with the amp are old and tired. I like this little amp a lot. It could be a real gig amp. Like everybody else I want a great sounding amp that is light weight. I have some nice amps, but they are either too big or too finicky. I keep a Roland cube 30 in my car just in case my gig amp fails. Heretofore I have used a Polytone baby brute, but it has become untrustworthy.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Jim

Thanks, Bobby,
This is one of my concerns. ;-) I don't know metric from schmetric...!
You mean the holes where the speaker attaches to the baffle might not fit? Duh.....?????

Features: 10" 8 rib seamless Hemp cone
If it doesn't sound good you can always smoke the cone.
A bit obvious but what the hell

I have a JC55. It doesn't weight much and it can get as loud as I ever need to play. I had been thinking that the sound was a little too brittle or something, but recently I played a session where it sounded just great (it was a loud session in a big room so I'm thinking that it may sound a little better played loud.

Hi Jim,

Yes - the hole is not the right size, and the screw mounts are spaced
differently, if I remember correctly. It's been a long time, but way
back when I used to sell Jazz Chorus amps, I remember that being a
problem, and I remember Roland not being overly sympathetic about it
(their speakers held up like crap - some of them had to be replaced
before the amp even left the store). I recommend that you call a
reputable Roland dealer and ask him. Over at Sweetwater, there is a guy
who I trust:

Tell him I told you to call. He's a nice guy.

Let me know how you make out.

best,
Bobby

hmm interesting... I'll follow this discussion.

I'd love to replace the speaker in my Roland Cube 30. The 10"
speaker in it now has a bit of a spike in the highs that can make
things sound tinny.

I was thinking more about the "ribbed" part. *LOL*

Anyway, thanks for those recommendations. I'm thinking the first
one might suit the amp, since it includes modelling and needs a
speaker with wider frequency response.
