2. Make the notes more important than the time feel.
3. Put your amp so close to you that you either can't hear other people or they can't hear you (because you hear yourself too loud and turn down).
4. Put your amp on the floor, pointed at people's feet.
5. If there's a bassist, play the low strings a lot with the bass turned up so that you turn the bass frequencies into mud.
6. If you're comping simultaneously with a pianist, set up so that you can't hear him well and don't worry about potential conflicts.
7. Keep your comping nice and busy and play in the same octave as the soloist.
8. Play an instrument that isn't in tune or isn't intonated perfectly. Keep those exciting high notes a couple of cents flat.
