I did a transcription of Larry Carlton's wonderful rendition of
Sleepwalk. The first bars are the keyboard part, written for two
guitars, and then the rest is Larry's part:

I am not trying to be mean or rude but one of the traditions of jazz is the development of ears, the ability to hear. A tune as simple as Sleepwalk would be a perfect place to start learning how to hear and transcribe. Find a mp3 player that allows you to loop sections and slow things down. A tool that I have come to rely on for transcribing is software called Transcribe by Seventh String software, I am sure there are other tools out there and maybe some of the group members could make other recommendations.

Years ago before the BBC had decended to it`s
current state they used to often screen concerts
with the likes of Duke Ellington, Count Basie etc.

One item I really used to like were the soloists,
each guy would stand in turn and perform his solo
whilst the rest of the band would take a back seat,
then it would be the next guy`s turn.

Does anybody else remember these "Golden years"?

I have a black & White copy which I watch regularly of Count Basie
produced by Terry Henebury it's fabulous, all the soloists saunter
down to the microphone play their fantastic solos & back to the chair,
some very good shots also of "Pepper" Green man I just love that
rythmn section, who's playing that style of guitar on an archtop
these days?

We had a show like that on TV in the USA... I don't remember what it was
called (Battle Of The Bands?). They had a different band each week... The
Dorsey Bros.., Ray Anthony, Harry James, etc...
I remember being impressed with Louie Prima and decided I wanted to play the
trumpet... Then I heard Howard McGhee and Dizzy and was totally convinced...

Yes, the BBC Big Band, or the BBC Radio Big Band is still going strong. It's directed by Barry Forgie and Jiggs Whigham.

festival three years ago.
