Hey Jazzbuddy,

The Jazz on the Wharf series at Long Wharf Theatre (LWT) continues its triumphant 2006-2007 season with the masterful sounds of tenor saxophonist Harry Allen with the Harry Allen Quartet. Harry was born in Washington D.C. in 1966, and was raised in Los Angeles, CA and Burrillville, RI. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music in 1988 from Rutgers University in New Jersey, and currently resides in New York City. Harry Allen's saxophone style is reminiscent of the melodic, mainstream approach of such tenorists as Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, Lester Young, and Stan Getz. The BMG recording artist has over twenty recordings to his name, three of which have won Gold Disc Awards, including his CD " Tenors Anyone?", which won both the Gold Disc Award and the New Star Ward.

Harry Allen has performed at jazz festivals and clubs worldwide, frequently touring the United States, Europe, and the Far East, performing and recording with such jazz greats as John Pizzarelli, Rosemary Clooney and Tony Bennett, among others. Arbors Records new Harry Allen-Joe Cohn Quartet release, " Hey, Look Me Over", received 4 stars in DownBeat, July 2006. For this evenings' performance, members of Harry's quartet include Joe Cohn (guitar), Joel Forbes (bass) and Chuck Riggs (drums). Additional details available from the following weblink:

People say that you don't "see" good jazz, you live it. From the moment the first note hits the air, the room is filled with a rich and brilliant history. Influences from Ellington and Armstrong to Holiday and Coltrane make their home between the notes, crafting an experience that reverberates long after the music ends.

Jazz on the Wharf presents Connecticut's finest Jazz musicians in a friendly, intimate environment. The six-part series is programmed in association with Jazz Haven (JH), New Havens leading Jazz presenter. This series continues with the remaining scheduled performances:

Phil Bowler (bass) - May 18, 2007

Craig Hartley, piano, and Steve Slagle, saxophone - June 1, 2007

(All artists and dates subject to change.)

Enjoy,
Greg
