Dear JazzBuddies,
Creative Concerts
(CC) and Jazz at ACES/ECA (JAE) will present a benefit performance with the Eric Alexander Quintet
featuring the great Harold Mabern on piano. Mr. Alexander played at the Educational Center for the Arts
(ECA) last year with his quartet in a performance that was widely acclaimed. In the year since, Eric Alexander's prestige has rocketed. In this year's
Downbeat
Magazine Jazz Poll, he placed 6th place in the tenor saxophone
category. Mr. Alexander is a young and very promising musician.
Boasting a warm, finely burnished tone and a robust melodic and
harmonic imagination. He brings a seasoned veteran's proficiency and
poise to his recording, "Nightlife in Tokyo".
Along with most frequent collaborator Mabern completing this all-star quintet are Steve Davis (trombone), Nat Reeves (bass) and Joe Farnsworth (drums).
COST: Tickets
are priced at $20 and all money raised will be donated to ECA students
for music scholarships. For additional information, contact Sam Goldenberg <sgolden...@yahoo.com>. Tickets may be purchased at any of the following venues:
DIRECTIONS: From the North:
Follow I-91 to New Haven. Take Exit #3 -- Trumbull Street. At the
bottom of the ramp take a left onto Orange Street. One block further,
on the right, on the corner of Orange and Audubon Streets is ECA.
From the East or West: Follow I-95 to I-91 North. (See From the North: above.)
From the Valley:
Follow Route 34 East into New Haven. This becomes George Street. Follow
George Street into the center of town. Turn left onto Church Street
(just past the former Macy's). Church Street becomes Whitney Avenue at
Grove Street. Go one block further up Whitney, take a right onto
Audubon Street. ECA is at the end of the block on the left.
* Parking: On Audubon Street, in the middle of the block, you will see an entrance to the Audubon Court parking garage - between the
Creative Arts Workshop and the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven
buildings. We have been fortunate in that special parking arrangements
have been arranged for your convenience for the concert. The Audubon
Court parking garage has agreed to stay open Saturday night between the
hours of 7:00 pm and midnight for our concert. And they are offering a
reduced price of $6 for parking, as long as you get your ticket
validated by us at the concert.
Over the years, Creative Concerts has presented performances featuring legendary jazz artists such as
Keith Jarrett, Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner,
Dexter Gordon, Max Roach, Phil Woods,
Gary Burton
and many others. We only do one concert per year and this is it. So
don't miss this special benefit performance which supports the students
at ECA!
