THE SPIRIT OF DJANGO REINHARDT CONCERT
- Wednesday, August 1, 8pm at Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center
Celebrates the music of legendary gypsy guitarist DJANGO REINHARDT and a musical style known as "Le Jazz Hot" born in Paris in the 30's where Django teamed with famed jazz violinist STEPHANE GRAPPELLI to create The Hot Club Quintette. This year's concert features The John Jorgenson Quintet. Jorgenson is one of the best interpreters of Django Reinhardt's material. He re-created Django's music for the feature films "Gattica" and also "Head in the Clouds" in which he portrayed the legendary guitarist with stars
Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz. He is also a former member of the
Elton John Band and has recorded with Sting, Pavarotti, Streisand, Benny Goodman. Tickets: Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, Bway @ 60th Street
