Grameen Foundation

Dear Lifeline,

Prof. Yunus
Microfinance pioneer and 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Professor Muhammad Yunus talks about the beginnings of Grameen Foundation, and the value of the work we do today strengthening the microfinance sector and providing mobile phone-based solutions to the world's poorest.

One day in 1976, Nobel Prize winner and Grameen Bank founder Professor Muhammad Yunus helped spark the global microfinance movement by making tiny loans — totaling $27 — to a group of 43 Bangladeshi women that enabled them to break away from the moneylenders who had kept them trapped in a cycle of poverty.

Prof. Yunus’s vision for helping the poor inspired me and ignited my passion to spread microfinance around the globe. After studying with him for six years, I returned to the United States to start Grameen Foundation and do my part to help change the world.

Others got involved, too. People from around the world joined me in the fight against poverty and began to support Grameen Foundation. As Prof. Yunus describes in a special video message to our supporters, Grameen Foundation has grown over the last 14 years into a leading poverty-fighting organization that is making a real difference in the lives of the poor.

With just $27, Prof. Yunus started a movement that would change the world. In honor of Prof. Yunus’ original $27 loan, we invite you to join Grameen Foundation’s $27 on the 27th Campaign. People who support this poverty-fighting initiative commit to giving $27 on the 27th of each month to support Grameen Foundation’s work to change the world by strengthening the microfinance sector and creating unique mobile phone-based solutions that provide the poor with information and income-generating opportunities.

By setting up your automatic, recurring donation, you provide us with much-needed, ongoing support we can count on each month while helping give the poor the boost they need begin to climbing out of poverty. Won’t you join us?

One person can really make an impact on global poverty. Will you be the next one to make a difference? Please join me in the $27 on the 27th Campaign and make a difference in the lives of the poorest.

Sincerely,
Alex Counts

P.S. I personally give as part of the $27 on the 27th campaign and am looking for 100 new people to partner with me on this initiative. This small amount each month can make a big difference. Won’t you sign up today?
