RESOURCE PERSON:
Dr. Imran Rashid is currently working as Assistant Professor in the department of parasitology, University of Veterinary and animal sciences (UVAS), Lahore, Pakistan. He did DVM in 1997 from college of veterinary sciences, Lahore and M.Phil. Parasitology in 2005 from UVAS. He did Master 2 Professional (M2 Pro) in 2008 and Ph.D. degree in 2011 in the field of Parasitology from University of Tours (Université François Rabelais, Tours), France. He has worked as Veterinary Officer (Health) from 1998 to 2004 in the department of Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Punjab, Pakistan. During his tenure of service as Veterinary Officer, he provided extension services to the small dairy hold farmers in the districts of Chakwal, Khanewal and Kasur and provided consultancy services to the large dairy hold farmers in the district of Kasur. He has worked on the Development and Evaluation of DNA and Recombinant protein based vaccine strategies against toxoplasmosis during his studies in France. During his stay in France, he has availed the opportunity to take courses of bioinformatics, informatics and statistics. He has actively participated in the sportive activities (tennis, squash, badminton, mountain climbing, archery, and swimming) of UFR, Tours. He is now actively involved in developing research activities to diagnose and control parasitic diseases in addition to academic activities.
He has won a Rs10.925 million grant from Grand Challenges Canada in its phase 4 in 2013, for the Development of toxoplasma multi-protein sub-unit vaccine and their experiment trials in mouse model administered intra-nasally with triad of antigens formulated in nanoparticles, funded by the Government of Canada and which is dedicated to supporting Bold Ideas with Big Impact in global health.
