Good afternoon everyone, 

I see that we're coming to the end of the month here so I thought I'd start up a fresh thread. Crossing my fingers that we'll see some progress on the new CBA over the next week or two, and that way we can start writing about all the fun that goes with Spring Training. 

It's been great to hear a lot more from the team lately, and we hope to see that continue into February and beyond. I realize that it's not as easy to come up with content ideas when the lockout is ongoing, but feel free to reference that big list that Tyson sent out a while ago as well, or reach out to he or I at any time and we're happy to help you brainstorm. 

I'll leave it at that for now, but I hope you're all doing well and have a great month ahead!

Hi All,

For the month of January, JJ published 71 articles in total and we hit just under 800K views (for those of you newer to the group, please note this is confidential and stays between us) which is great news considering this lockout has been a real drag. That being said, hopefully the two sides start to figure things out sooner than later and we can start talking about Spring Training and free agency.

I had a list of topics in our last group conversation and I will post them down below with some removed (written on) and some added that are all up for grabs. Our goal for this month will be 100 articles and I believe this group has the capability to do so. 

Research required (most likely fit for slideshows):

- Highest drafted (late rounds) Blue Jays prospects to make the active roster (drafted by a certain GM, history, feel free to expand)

- 3/5/7/10 Blue Jays prospects looking to breakout next season (can make it based on position if you want)

- Looking at the 2021 drafted prospects and how they finished out the campaign

- Former prospects who are currently MiLB free agents

- Free agents from rival AL East teams who could fit with the Blue Jays

- 3/5 of the worst contracts/trades given out by AA or Ross Atkins

- Projecting the 2022 opening day roster

- 3/5 players on the roster bubble for 2022

- Ranking the free agents the Blue Jays should go after once the CBA is in place

- Trade packages for Randal Grichuk

- 3/5/7 minor league free agents to consider bringing to Spring Training

- Looking back at the 2015 or 2016 playoff rosters and seeing where they are now

- 3/5/7/10 minor league players looking to bounce back this season

- All players currently without a contract and arbitration-eligible (under old CBA)

- 3/5 move you would do if you were Ross Atkins right now (once new CBA is in place)

-3/5/7 players the club should avoid in free agency 

- 3/5/7 players you wish the club would have signed and were rumoured in the mix for

- 5/7 biggest trade chips on the Blue Jays

- Where the current 40 man roster all came from (drafted, traded, signed, etc)

Opinion Pieces (varied opinions can lead to topics being covered more than once):

- Who will reach the Majors first, Zach Logue or Bowden Francis?

- Who should back up Vladdy at first base this season?

- Looking at Fangraphs Steamer projections for the lineup in 2022

- Blockbuster trade scenarios using the Baseball Trade Evaluator

- Should George Springer continue being the leadoff hitter

- Predicting how many games a healthy George Springer will play in this season

- How the lockout is impacting the Blue Jays (players cannot train at Dunedin, signing players, trading)

- Predicting the Blue Jays bullpen for 2022

- How a healthy David Phelps could bring change to the Blue Jays relief corps

- Could the Blue Jays have brought back Robbie Ray or Marcus Semien?

- How an increased salary cap in a new CBA could impact the Blue Jays

- Likelihood the Blue Jays go after Jose Ramirez

- What the club should do at third base if they miss out on Ramirez

- Will Alejandro Kirk steal the starting role? Impact with Moreno coming up?

- Could the club use Jordan Groshans as trade bait with Orelvis Martinez coming up the system?

- Dissecting Keith Law's top 100 prospects (featuring four blue jays)

- Could Kevin Smith find himself being the starting third baseman?

Also be on the lookout for players posting batting and bullpen sessions as Spring draws near, as this could be good content to write and dissect as well.

Brent, I thought I'd answer your question in this thread (no big deal, but you put it in the last one). 

I don't know that arguing for Gaston to get another job will be well received with him being 77 years old. I know ol' Tony is in Chicago, but I think that's an exception. 

The Hall of Fame argument is always worth a look. I did a quick google to see if there was a clear reason why he hasn't been elected, and I found this article. Disclaimer, it's a little (a lot) over the top, but there are also a lot of good points: https://thecomeback.com/mlb/why-is-cito-gaston-not-in-the-baseball-hall-of-fame.html

I don't know that I'd jump on the race message that this author is talking about, but there may be some legitimacy about Gaston's perceived "attitude", and how the labour negotiations went back in 1994-95 (he wasn't a fan haha). 

I did see a few other articles that have been published on the topic over the years, so I'd encourage you to read up on it a bit before tackling it. That said, it's a worthwhile topic if you want to pursue it.

Hi Henry, 

I might wait on that idea until the offseason actually resumes. I say that because I've written about Marte a few times already this offseason. I'm with you, I think he's the perfect candidate (maybe you aren't going that far haha). 

I'd say keep it handy for when things get closer to looking like they could start up again, and that will give it more time to breathe since I wrote about him.

Evening Everyone,

After the first week of February, JJ ranked second across FanSided's MLB platform with just under 300K views with almost 20 articles! Congrats everyone.

 Also, congrats are in order for Zachary and Callum. Both of you had articles that ranked in the top five last week when it comes to views across all MLB FanSided platforms! Well done.

Right now, slideshows are absolutely killing it with our readers. Every time a person reads a slide, it counts as one view. If you write a ten-slide article, and ten people view it, you're already at 100 views and they can add up pretty quickly. I will say the one downside is these generally require a lot more effort and time but the payoff can be absolutely massive. Something to think about in the future.

Hmmm... I think it could work, but I'd be very careful with the way you phrase the title, just because he wasn't there long. I don't know what I mean by that exactly, but I feel like you'd get jumped on for "Does Donaldson belong on the Level of Excellence?". Just my two cents anyway, but feel free to purpose the article idea.
