Good Evening Everyone,

Starting a fresh thread here. Evan and Josh both your articles will go in the morning!

Lets keep the month of December going strong. Currently knocking on the 500K mark for the month which is great news considering the lockout!

Sorry shared this on an old thread as well but, was thinking of doing something around Sean Manaea and how he could be a great candidate to fill the fifth starter spot.  I know there has been general articles on the fifth starter spot but not sure if there has been anything just on trading for Manaea and the upset he provides along with potential low cost as well.

Let me know

Go for it Callum. We’ve included him in a few articles over the past couple of months, but not much more than just mentioning him as a possible trade candidate. Feel free to take a deeper dive.

Good evening everyone, and a belated Merry Christmas wish to you all!

My apologies for being pretty quiet here lately. With the lockout and busy season leading up to a holiday break, I've been extremely busy and frankly, a little burned out. I hate that the lockout is still a thing, but in some ways the minor break has probably been good for yours truly haha. That said, here's hoping that they can get the damn thing worked out sooner than later and we can get back to a normal offseason.

I wanted to throw out an idea I had just now, especially because it could even work as a series kinda thing. I found myself doing some cleaning earlier and I played Giraffe Neck Marc's Top 50 players list on Youtube while I was doing it. That led me to remembering that I had done a "Where Does Bo Bichette rank among MLB shortstops" article a while ago... and then got me thinking that we could do more of that sorta thing.

With that in mind, please speak up if you would like to write about any of the following:

- Where does Vladimir Guerrero Jr. rank among MLB first basemen?
- Where does Springer/Teoscar/Gurriel rank among MLB outfielders? (could be done as a group piece, or individually, depending on interest)
- Where does Danny Jansen rank among MLB catchers?
- ... Jose Berrios among starters
- ... Kevin Gausman "
- ... the bullpen rank
- ... the (incomplete) rotation
- ... Alek Manoah among MLB sophomores
- ... Jordan Romano among closers
- ... Charlie Montoyo among managers
- ... Ross Atkins/Mark Shapiro among front offices

These kinda lists are always fun because they allow for plenty of your opinion, and there are lots of ways you can provide stats/projections to back up your stance as well. Again, feel free to lay claim to one of the ideas above, or pitch your own related to the theme if you like.

I'll leave it at that for now, but I hope you're all doing well and have had a chance to relax and spend time with loved ones.

I should add that I did a “where does Bo rank” article that would be worth checking out before you write, but as long as you take a slightly different angle then I’m sure it’s fine. Something like “why Bo is already a top 10 shortstop” would work, for example.

Heya team,

Since that last idea I threw out didn't really stick, I'm wondering how many would like to contribute to an article I'm looking to put together before the end of the week. I'm looking to put together a Hall of Fame ballot from the Jays Journal, and I'd love to have your input.

Ideally here's what I'm looking for:

- Your vote, and remember that you can only pick a max of 10
- A few short snippets about some of the players you did or didn't vote for. Ideally I'm looking for a compact explanation about why you feel some players are/aren't deserving of a vote, and you don't have to do many of them. Even if you each wrote a paragraph for two players, that would give me enough to put together a cool article that isn't just from my perspective.

If I get enough of a response from you all (say, if 10 people participated), then it would be fun to write from the perspective of, "here's who would get in if it were up to us". If the response isn't that strong I'll likely do a "here's how we'd collectively submit a ballot".

Please let me know if you'd like to chip in, and if you're able to do that before Sunday at noon then I'll put together something cool before my holidays finish up.

Other than that, I hope you're all doing well, staying healthy, and enjoying your holiday season. And if I don't chat with you again before, Happy New Year!

Brent Cardy’s Hall of Fame Ballot

Barry Bonds

Bonds was a Hall of Fame player before the steroids. His 91-93 seasons with Pittsburgh and San Francisco were outstanding. Look how much of a nosedive the Pirates took after he left to go out west?  It still takes skill to put the bat on the ball. You still have to play 162 games and he still was playing Left Field in a National League Park.

Todd Helton

I thought Helton was a solid hitter. Some may argue he had a truckload of protection from Larry Walker and Dante Bichette. He also played his career in Coors Field. Ballpark factor is a real thing folks. However , he again did play in National League parks which are bigger. He did put up a 61.8 for his career and a 404 OBP. He was solid.

Roger Clemens does not make the ballot because I think pitching while taking steroids does give you an unfair advantage. He also had to only pitch every 5 days.

The other players on the ballot don’t jump out to me.

Thanks Brent! Excited to have you guys chipping in, and I'll compile those "snippets" and use them as they make sense in the flow of whatever I put together. Appreciate it!

What Brent just provided is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. You don't need to put a ton of time into it or overthink anything too much, just basically throw a few thoughts out as to why you did or didn't vote for someone.

Here's my HOF piece. Let me know if it's too long, if so maybe it could be its own companion article? Anyways let me know, I tried to keep it brief but it may be too long.

Long before he broke the single-season and all-time home run records, Barry Bonds was the best baseball I’ve ever seen. His seemingly limitless athleticism, power and speed, plus that famous smile made him a cherished man in Pittsburgh.

Although his figure, game and public perception changed during his time in the Bay, what he was able to accomplish was truly remarkable. He led the league in walks 12 times, including an astonishing total of 232 in 2004.  Out of all the accolades that defined his career, a few stand out: seven MVP awards, 15 seasons with an OPS of 1.000 or better and eight gold glove awards.  And somehow, he only led MLB in home runs twice.

Roger Clemens maniacal drive led him to a career unlike any other. It also led him on a villainous path that has caused many to question his eligibility. While we’re not sure exactly when “Rocket” began experimenting with foreign substances, his career with Boston and Toronto alone merits strong consideration. Five Cy Young awards, six ERA titles and an outrageous 44 shutouts!

The fact that he was able to pitch nearly another decade, win two more Cy’s and a pair of World Series demonstrates his insane will to win. That same ambition has led many voters to leave him off their ballot, but in my books, he deserves a spot in Cooperstown.

Curt Schilling was the heart and soul of three teams that made it to the World Series, including two that won it all. His gutty complete game shutout kept the Phillies alive in Game 5 of the Fall Classic against the Blue Jays.

Schilling’s next chance to play the hero came with Arizona in 2001 and he would not be denied. He made three starts in the Fall Classic against the Yankees and only surrendered four runs over 21.1 innings. His performance earned him World Series MVP. His gritty efforts helped the Red Sox finally break through in 2004 and helped Boston capture the Commissioner’s trophy again in 2007.

Thanks!

For starters, I have always been an advocate for a full ballot if there are enough names that should go to the HOF. I hate seeing stuck-up voters trying to act as gatekeepers to Cooperstown even though some of them never even watched certain players play during their prime or have not touched on the topic of baseball in years but still get votes. This year, I think there are 10 deserving players that deserve recognition.

I am also for PED users who have played well and earned the right to be in the HOF such as Bonds and Clemens. I know Ortiz was linked to PEDs but never formally suspended but he earns a vote because of his play on the field and what he did for the city of Boston. This would also include Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, and Gary Sheffield because I believe their stats are enough to get them into the HOF. I understand people have different viewpoints and stances regarding PED users in the HOF but at the same time, but to me, they deserve a place in Cooperstown if they have the stats to back it up.

I think Scott Rolen has always been deserving but was late cuts on previous year's ballots. Hopefully, this is the year.

Curt Schilling I believe should also get into Cooperstown, regardless of what people may think of his persona off the field. A career 3.46 ERA should not be ignored and he was an absolute animal in the playoffs.

Todd Helton – Had a 12 year stretch where he posted a slash line of .329/.428/.568, while averaging 42 doubles, 27 home runs, 99 home runs during that time frame and collected three Gold Gloves in that time frame.  Finished his career with a batting average of .316, had he played anywhere but Colorado, specifically New York he would be a shoe-in for the HOF.

Andruw Jones – eight 30-home run seasons, including a 41 and 51-home runs seasons, add on and additionally three 20-home run seasons.  Jones also collected ten consecutive Gold Glove Seasons.  While his batting average wasn’t superb, it was good enough to go with his power and his defense.

Joe Nathan – Over 10-year span in the majors he averaged 37.5 saves, while posting a 2.38 ERA.  One of the top closers of his generation and currently sits eighth all-time saves.

David Ortiz – One of the most dangerous power hitters of his generation, ten 30-home run seasons, as well as three 40+.  Career playoff slash line of .289/.404/.543 while collected 41 extra base hits in 85 playoff games to go with an ALCS and WS MVP awards.  632 doubles, 541 career home runs, 1,768 RBI and career slash line of .286/.380/.552 to go with seven Silver Slugger Awards and 10 All-Star appearances.

Billy Wagner – Just one of six pitchers to ever record 400 career saves.  Pitched in more than 70 games five times in his career and over 16 se4asons was as consistent as they come only having an ERA over 2.85 once in his career which was an injury filled 2000 season.

I just can’t vote for anyone link to steroids, it is cheating.  When the league decides Pete Rose and Joe Jackson can get into the hall of fame, I’d consider letting the steroid guys in.  Rose and Jackson first.

Of course, Tyson, you are entitled to your opinion, as is everyone, but I have to disagree, and would not vote for anybody this year except Billy Wagner.
The way Bonds, Clemens and A-Rod have behaved, brazenly and blatantly lying in the face of baseball and the fans, is such a slap in the face to the sport and all of us, showing what kind of people they are, and how they feel about us, thinking that we're a bunch of morons, that I simply don't think they belong in the Hall.
And Schilling is actually a danger to society with his racist, fascist hate-mongering, making him completely ineligible to be represented in the Hall, in my opinion.
But how do I really feel about those guys, right? LOL.

Unfortunately, it looks like enough people are going to cave this year in Bonds and Clemens' final year of eligibility to get them in. But how embarrassing will that induction day and those speeches be? What a joke for the sport that we love. Even the fact that MLB allows that scumbag Rodriguez to be a commentator on its games is a complete farce. Not one smarmy word that comes out of his mouth can be believed.  (yes, again...how do i really feel?)

And I would maintain the same stance when the cheating Astros players become eligible down the line.

Well..... you guys asked for our input!! ;-)

Hello all,

First off, I think this topic is a great idea! Especially with this unfortunate lockout, gives fans a great debate.  Also, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

If I had a Hall of Fame vote, I would always strive to give all of my 10 votes, so here is my list:

Barry Bonds

Roger Clemens

Curt Schilling

Alex Rodriguez

Manny Ramirez

Gary Sheffield

David Ortiz

Billy Wagner

Todd Helton

Jeff Kent

I’m strongly against PED users and happy to see the game has cleaned up quite a bit.  For any recent and future players that get caught, it would be very tough to give them any votes.  However, for me, I believe the Hall showcases the history of the game, and the best of the best for each era.

PED’s were a major part of an era that featured players breaking records - that at the time, all fans (even non-baseball fans) were glued to their TVs watching history.  Some got caught, and many did not.  It’s a fun debate, but I believe no matter what side of the fence you’re on, that era produced some pretty amazing players - whether they needed to use it or not.

History may not always include things we want to remember, but it always includes everything that tells the story, and in my opinion, I couldn’t tell a story about the game without mentioning the PED era.
