JSON-RPC custom ID

With JsonRpcClient, when sending a request, is it possible to set the JSON-RPC 'id' field to something custom?  

I also want access to the ID when receiving a response, but I believe the recent question at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/jayrock/J8MgyMgwrPI will give me that answer.
