For the past 4 years or so, we've been holding elections for President, VP and secretary in July.  Perhaps we will change that some year, but that can be up to the next board to discuss.  The important thing now is to announce that this meeting we will hold elections.

So,  if you are interested in running for one of the 3 positions and cannot make the meeting for some reason, then let me know and I'll be sure that your name gets put in the hat/pool to be voted for on Wednesday!

Also of note, I am going to be setting up the Google Hangout's video chat again.

This will not be broadcast online (this meeting); this is to proof-of-concept the new Hangouts software (since Google has changed stuff), the new venue's internet, lighting, and other stuff. If you are unable to join us for the meeting in person, but would like to join the Google Hangout, find a good headset & webcam and send me an email off-list and we can get it set up.

This will be to join in on the elections as well as observe/interact with the presentations.

This will also be the pilot program for potentially having remote presenters in the future. I'm out of state all week on a business trip, and still fully intend to do my half of the presentation via the Hangout. :)

Sorry I couldn't make it last night, I've been very, very busy on this trip. Sounds like I missed a great meeting!

Looking forward to doing my Nmap presentation next month. Should be even better since I'll have more time to prepare and add things, setup a better demo, etc.

Congrats to the new officers! :)

Jess, et al.,

It was a very busy evening!  It started with a history of the building, then a tour.

Afterwards we held elections.

The new President is Dan Bidleman
The new VP is Rob McKennon
The new Secretary is Ralph Figueroa

Then followed introductions  (which took longer than it should have).

And finally came Michael's wonderful presentation.

Afterwards we had another wonderful LUSH at Gator's Dockside.  Even though Ralph wasn't present for the meeting, as our new secretary, he arrived early at Gator's and had a table ready for all of us!

The bartender promised me next month they will have their beer taps working!  (evidently they had to have their beer cooler replaced).

I think that about sums it up.

Rob.

As discussed partially at the LUG and more at the LUSH, it seemed like there was good interest in a "Tour of the Datacenters" over the next couple of months.

I am working with GoRack, the new sponsor of our website, to coordinate the feasibility and a time for a tour of their facility. This is a minor logistical nightmare, as it requires significant assistance from the federal police that protect the facility.

Stay tuned for a date, which I hope to put far enough in the future to allow those who wish to attend to plan appropriately. I am aiming for a Wednesday or Saturday day.

Facilities like Peak 10 and Cologix are much easier to arrange.
Facilities like CSX will be absolutely impossible due to their level of security and our lack of inside contacts. (GoRack's ultra high security location would also fall into this were it not for the contacts.)

As a 'Non- Professional', the tour of CxP was very enlightening. Having a idea of the 'Internet backbone' is one thing, but seeing it up close was very interesting and observing the care taken (with what I imagine is one giant power bill), was impressive. Speaking of power, I wonder what it would take to convert it to solar?

Thanks, to Jim Ferguson of CxP for conducting the Tour and Michael for arranging it. Also big thanks for CxP hosting the monthly LUG meeting place. I hope we will be there for a long time.

Yes more I'd like some more Tours, please.  I suggest having them on a different week than the regular meeting and have a 'mini LUSH' after the Tour.

Thanks, to Dan, Rob and Ralph for taking on the responsibility of administrating JaxLUG I look forward to great things going forward. Ok, now youse guise got some work to do. BTW, when's your first board meeting?

Viva JaxLUG and GNU/Linux and all them DESKTOPS!
