Hi,

For reference, I referred Steve here, he organizes the GOLUG (Greater Orlando LUG) and they have online meetings
The topics talked about at GOLUG can interest the JaxLUG members
Also, I think we should adopt using jitsi (we can of course cross stream jitsi and discord if we really want)

Hi MJB,

I'm not on Discord. I'm not a fan of walled gardens, and sign up with
as few of them as I can get away with. Also, in the time it would take
me to learn the ins and outs of Discord, Discourse, MS Teams, Google
Groups etc I could learn a new computer language, which is much more
fun.

In my other recent post to JaxLUG I mentioned having the basic
architecture of a trivially simple, no-security replacement for mailing
lists, which *anybody* can back up, *anybody* can host, and no dmarc
dkim or any other anti-list BS. Admin is so simple my eight year old
sister could do it (if I had an eight year old sister :-).

As far as presentations, Jitsi is fairly easy.

HTH,

Thanks Yehuda,

By way of introduction, I'm Steve Litt from Orlando. Around the turn of
the century I was very tight with JaxLUG: Here's one example:

https://troubleshooters.com/tpromag/200107/200107.htm

Around that time, JaxLUG founder Daniel Stringfield had moved to
Orlando, joined LEAP (Linux Enthusiasts and Professionals, the direct
ancestor of GoLUG), and was elected LEAP's secretary. On 9/11/2001
(yeah that 9/11) Daniel and I had to file LEAP's corporate paperwork by
5PM, so in spite of all the chaos and our extreme anger at what had
been done to our country, we got together and got the job done. It was
VERY spooky: Not a plane in the sky.

I was very tight with a JaxLUG guy named Art Wildman, who had a pretty
big influence on what eventually became the Samba Unleashed book. VERY
smart and talented guy.

Move the clock forward 25 years and I'm giving a series of
presentations on Lint-Learning, which is how Yehuda heard of me. So far
Lint-Learning is the use of a compiler, lint utility, or other syntax
checker as an educational tool. It involves a completely different
mindset, because instead of viewing the lint utility or compiler as
your enemy and a compile error/warning as an inconvenient slap in the
face, you view the lint utility or compiler as your teacher and each
error or warning as a valuable piece of information helping you
understand the language.

In the past 7 days I've given my Lint-Learning HTML presentation at
GoLUG and at the Philadelphia North Linux User Group: Both online. I
want to give it more places, and I'm also ready to go with my
Lint-Learning Rust presentation. If and when JaxLUG has online meetings
via Jitsi, BigBlueButton or (barf) Zoom, I'd like to give one of these
presentations to JaxLUG. I'm not on Discord: I'm not a walled garden
kinda guy.

Speaking of walled gardens, I have part of a plan for an extremely
simple, zero security (don't say anything you wouldn't say in the 11PM
news) alternative to a mailing list. It's simple enough to be hosted
by anybody and everybody: It's distributed, sort of like Git. I'll need
help with the back end (hopefully Rust or Go) to bring it to fruition.
I've had fairly detailed discussions about it with Kyle Terrien (copied
in this email), and am blind copying him on this email. Kyle is an
extremely insightful technologist. Kyle, you have my full permission to
reply to or copy my email anywhere: The BCC is just in case you didn't
want your email address disclosed. Anyway, when this project becomes an
itch somebody with back end talent wants to scratch, it's ready to go.

Yehuda, thanks for the (re)introduction to JaxLUG!
