Hi

Copland was a movie featuirng Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Keitel, Ray
Liotta set in new Jersey. Stallone was playing  rather  overweight
cop, a typical acting role for his stereotypical genre, a lowly
sheriff in a location where cops from the New York City dominated and
lived in pensioned houses. Basically there was high density ofpolice
offiers in the town just over the Brooklyn Bridge.

The question is this one. Is there is a town in south east England
that has a higher density than normal of software engineers, IT
architects, designers, archite by reputation or actual fact?

The answer, by the way, cannot be London(!).

Thanks Sebb

I suspect that the nearest town to Green Park in Reading is, obviously, Reading! Unfortunately the Bermuda triangle of Reading, Basingstoke and Camberley does not quite appeal to me.

Perhaps I should have added some qualifiers to that previous post:

Where developers are living in their houses/flats with their spouses or partner and family? It might be interesting to find a nice a town of good Java folk living in designer houses: The Wisteria lane of Java or may be JVM peoples.

I'd hazard a guess at Camberley or Farnborough due to destity of / defence companies.

I don't know how far your definition of "south east" stretches, but
there seems to be a lot going on in Cambridge, and that's certainly a
pleasant place to live.

Frank.

And it is almost one very famous and celebrous.

What are the 3 / 4 bedroom house prices like around there then?

What is the cost of yearly travelcard from there to central London?
Commute times?

Do we hear the pitter-patter of tiny PP feet? ;-)

We looked into Cambridge many years ago and it wasn't a straight forward
commute to London, but there were plenty of tech jobs and companies then
(about 7 years ago) around Cambridge itself, so we would have opted to work
and live there. We also looked at Bath, which had similar appeal in both
transport (M4 and trains) and a fairly vibrant (at the time) tech community.
It also had Georgian housing, a must for my wife.

No pitter patter I am afriad. I am just looking around at potential
areas to live, no serious hunting yet.. I have been living in my
current house for several years now.

I know of one manager who commutes from Bishop's Storford and then
move to Saffon Warden.
It would appear that London is very much "look either to North or else
look to South of the city".

Hi Peter,

I love my home "village" of Chalfont St Peter for similar reasons that I think you're looking for. It gives me "best of both worlds" ie open fields at the back, 20+ mins walk to station thence 20-30 min ride to London (albeit Marylebone which isnt the best-connected Tube-wise...)

Other similar areas "on my list" (depending which bit of London you want easy access to) are Gerrards Cross (where my station is), Woking and Sevenoaks.

Bloody Hell, Mike

I am now thinking that you may have been right about this location about Gerrard Cross as possible place to live with a bit of greenery close enough to commute to London. And you sent this mail four years ago, I just checked the prices and my heart flipping died ... sweet .........
