Hi

My newsletter was late but not late enough to include the following
two pieces of news:

1. Good News!

TechMesh – The Alternative Programming Conference 4-6 December

Tech Mesh is designed to support and promote useful non-mainstream
technologies in the software industry and will bring together users
and inventors of various languages and technologies. The event takes
place in London between the 4th and 6th December.

O’Reilly newsletter subscribers can acquire tickets with a 20%
discount off the early-bird rate (before 5 November) and off the
standard rate (after 5 November) by registering on the conference
website with the promo code OREILLY.

Tech Mesh offers 8 tracks, with over 50 speakers, and talk topics will
include alternative solutions tackled by established companies such as
Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse. The event will host two premieres:
for the first time, the co-inventors of Erlang - Joe Armstrong, Robert
Virding and Mike Williams will be together on a stage to give a joint
keynote on 183 years of programming and the co-inventors of Haskell -
Simon Peyton Jones, Phil Wadler and John Hughes will also present a
keynote together. Other well known names on the list are Rich Hickey-
inventor of Clojure, Dean Wampler, Pieter Hintjens, Jonas Bonér, Bruce
Tate and Steve Vinoski. The entire conference schedule can be found
here.

At the Conference Party on 4 December, Sam Aaron and his
Overtone-powered multi-core band Meta-Ex will be generating sounds and
visuals by hacking Emacs and processing live event streams in real
time. There will also be an opportunity for delegates to join in the
jam with their own laptops.

2. The not so good news:

Due to medical issues in the family, John Pinner has to postpone the
Intermediate Python Training Course. This is now planned for January
30th. We all wish prompt recovery to his family member.

All the best

Josette
