Coffee + Code @ OSP Tempe is an event geared toward software
engineers. Get out of the office, but be productive. The first one had
a nice turnout and we all got quite a bit of coding done.

If you're interested in getting out of the office for a few hours once
a week stop by and check it out! The next one is June 1st from 12-4pm.

Hey so is there a good mailing lis tthats busy with developers with Javascript and it's library and frameworks based on it?

Do you also think that if I wanted to become a Web Javascript or JQuery developer that it requires mostly
studies of OOP side of it?  And do you recommend a 3rd party company that would specialize in training me
for this?

This list isn't very busy, but there's some good javascripters lurking on it.  You might also want to check out NodeAZ:  http://groups.google.com/group/nodeaz

Also I'm a co-organizer of the Phoenix Google Tech User's Group:  http://phoenix.gtugs.org/
We're currently doing half Android meetings and the other half is usually something HTML5/Javascript related.

Thanks Luis. So do you suggest I just start with a certain book that its faster to get me upto speed with programming in Javascript for
front-end development?  I'm getting a second opinion.

It depends on where you are starting from. If you have no knowledge
of programming, html or JS, would probably start with some of the
demos on w3schools.com ... If you have programming knowledge, but are
new to JS I would start with "JavaScript: The Definitive Guide" (O-
Reily Press). If you have some JS knowledge, but want to expand from
there, I would suggest picking up "JavaScript: The Good Parts"
followed by "Even Faster Websites".

I think anyone serious about web application development should read
those last two. I've got a couple books on my shelf that I need to go
through, and have a few more on node and mongodb on my todo list.
It's all pretty damned cool imho. Would be nice to see a MongoDB user
group as well... I should really consider getting JS group meetings
going again, maybe re-think the format a bit. I still think two
related meetings a month would be a good format. Maybe just say f*ck
it in terms of Mondays, and pick a day that competes with another
group mid-week.

Here's a question for everyone... first, is there a free "poll" site
around that someone can suggest... second, where is everyone at? I'd
like to stay more central, but from my work/home, I can get to most of
the valley in under half an hour or so.

I think JavaScript, the Definitive Guide is a bit old. The Good Parts is also a good video, but I would recommend to just start hacking on a project that sounds fun to you. Also, use jQuery. It's awesome.

As far as a free poll site, PollDaddy is free in some limited capacity. Acepolls is fast and free, but no demographics/analysis. GoPollGo has realtime results and some geo analytics. Also, my site, Wepolls.com is free and has some nice social features on it. We can market the poll for you to get hundreds of responses.
