It depends on where you are starting from. If you have no knowledge
of programming, html or JS, would probably start with some of the
demos on
w3schools.com ... If you have programming knowledge, but are
new to JS I would start with "JavaScript: The Definitive Guide" (O-
Reily Press). If you have some JS knowledge, but want to expand from
there, I would suggest picking up "JavaScript: The Good Parts"
followed by "Even Faster Websites".
I think anyone serious about web application development should read
those last two. I've got a couple books on my shelf that I need to go
through, and have a few more on node and mongodb on my todo list.
It's all pretty damned cool imho. Would be nice to see a MongoDB user
group as well... I should really consider getting JS group meetings
going again, maybe re-think the format a bit. I still think two
related meetings a month would be a good format. Maybe just say f*ck
it in terms of Mondays, and pick a day that competes with another
group mid-week.
Here's a question for everyone... first, is there a free "poll" site
around that someone can suggest... second, where is everyone at? I'd
like to stay more central, but from my work/home, I can get to most of
the valley in under half an hour or so.
