In response to your request for comments regarding the more random
style of newscast - I really liked it! I like it when you guys just
have a conversation about stuff - whether it be Java, other technology
or indeed anything (e.g. cars). I don't even mind some discussion
about patents, after all, there tends to be a fair bit of news about
patents these days.

My only comment would be to move the quick news to the end. Then you
guys can randomly discuss the main Java, Scala and Android (and Apple)
news, then finish up with the quick news - which can be useful to stay
up-to-date - and listener feedback. Perfect.

I don't mind the random chat as long as it is at the end and is about interesting technology innovation topics.

To be considerate to the busy people who want just Java, insert a remark when you are done with the serious stuff and are about to begin the random stuff.  Something like:

"James Gosling, you can stop listening now."

or

"Done with stuff, on with fluff."

You could even come up with some sort of speech pattern for delimiting regions, e.g., less than scala greater than So, I was using Scala last week and it was good but the interpreter was a bit clunky under Windows less than slash scala greater than.

less than bang dash dash I think you'll find it works out to be quite extensible. dash dash greater than

Guys, do whatever you want. If the discussion moves to pink unicorns
and rainbows, so be it. We always have the option to fast forward :-)

Indeed but don't forget, interesting as it is, the extra stuff is
fluff. People basically tune in to listen to the Java Posse not the

But if one is listening in the car as I do, fast forwarding can be a hazard,

Thanks, Tor, for trying to keep the discussion moving along.

Dick, Joe, Carl, Tor,

Late to the party catching up with the podcasts. All your 'studio'
podcasts are extremely entertaining regardless of the quantity of
strictly java-related content they contain and your November 3rd
podcast was no exception. You guys have a great dynamic - I recon you
could read the week's football results (I say that as a Rugby and
Formula One fan) and I'd still listen - at least for an episode or
two.

Your Devoxx podcast - which I saw live - was also nice and fresh and
very entertaining. Am I the only person who thinks Chet Haase could
make it on the comedy circuit?

Thanks for providing so much information and entertainment over the
years.

I agree with others that the conversation is good even for less Java-
specific content. The one comment I would make is less on Android.
Not because I'm anti-Android, but because I enjoy hearing Tor's
perspective on topics as well and having him need to sit out for long
periods is disappointing. The four of you have a good balance, and
when there's only three, that is upset.

Regards,
Rob

No way! The random chit-chat posse is part of what makes the podcast
so awesome. Sometimes really interesting topics come up during the
tangents, so I say keep the chit-chat, keep the tangents, and
especially the pink unicorns and rainbows!
