I'm just finished to write my software under TC65i.
At now I'm shocked because I knew about stopping of TC65i's production.
Why? It was so perfect device.
I compared with the nearest analogues.
And I found only one solution AC65i.
It support for Java, and it is used 80-pin connector (I used the developer board DSB75).
EGS5 has 50-pin connector. it is not good for me.
EHS6 is avaialble but I didn't see it in Russia.
So my question to developers for TC65i.
Which module did you choose for current projects?
Thank you.

Also I think AC65i will be stopped as well because TC65i and AC65i are the berries from the one field.
EHS6 is on LGA mounting. And I have to buy new developer board for it.

Personally I will use BGS5 in about a year or so. It is the far better replacement of TC65i-X I currently use.

And what about experience with BGS5? Do you solder it yourself? do you use DevBoard for BGS5? which one?

No, sorry, I only order the devices from manufacturer, I do not solder them by myself. I expect it would be software-compatible, that's the most important part for me.

Hello!
What is your experience with BGS5?
I plan to replace TC65 by EHS5.
Are you satisified with BGS5?
I read the datasheet on EHS5 and see one important detail for me.
TC65 has the wakeup mode on user-defined time (with AT-command).
I need this mode to reduce power consumption.
EHS5 can'd do like this. In this way I should add external chip with programmable timer to wakeup EHS5.
Thank you.

Actually my supplier still didn't finish the successor device based on BGS5 instead of TC65i-X. But I believe they have a great progress in developing it, so maybe they can share the experience, as I know they are reading this group too.

Hi,
you are asking about BGS or EHS? There is some difference between them, but not so big. I have mostly experience with BGS5T. I am not aware that you could use AT command to wake it up, but if it's online you can send signal on one of the lines where you have power source plugged in to turn it on. You can also issue AT command which turns of serial communication and lower power consumption if that help you.
I don't have so much experience with TC65, but I have a project where I had to use TC65 MIDlet on BGS5T and I just had to change few lines of code, so you could almost just copy program from TC65 to BGS5T.

Jure

Hello,

EHS5 is little different from TC65i.
Many AT commads from TC65i are missing. Some AT commands returns uncompleted results.
When modem is starting, you have to avoid to send any data to serial port, because modem will do reboot. (We sell approx. 300 EHS5 units with this problem.)

EHS5 is usable, but you have to read carefully all manuals.

For energy saving I used PIC18F24J11 microcontroller, which can sleep with 700nA current and has RTC and external input for wakeup.

EHS5 and 6 use 1.8V for GPIOs, I2C, SPI. You will need a level shifter for some peripheral devices. My choice is ST2378E .

Thank you, guys!

Ondrej, I see you have a huge experience with these units.
I was reading datasheet for EHS5 and I think it is no so detailed liek for TC65i.
I have a question about IDLE and SLEEP mode. Because it is about 2-7 mA power consumption only.
Technically, it is easy to turn EHS into Airplane mode.
But how to turn into SLEEP or IDLE mode I didn't understand.
I need to run EHS5 every 6-9 hours for 2-3 minutes only. Other time it should be slept.
SLEEP mode is ok for energy economy but how I see there is no wake-up mode.
How to wake-up from SLEEP mode?
1. to send external signal to ASC0
2. use external chip i.e. PIC as you said

am I right or no?
Thank you
