CREG state 2 forever?

I found today a problem with TC65iX and have no solution for it.

The signal of the currently selected operator (manual selection) drops to such a low level, that the TC65iX enters in the CREG state 2 ("Not registered, but ME is currently searching for a new operator") and we can no longer use AT+COPS command (as stated in the documentation). After this I do let the signal level rise, i.e. we do have normal signal coverage from more operators. Problem is that the TC65iX remains in CREG state 2 and stays there "forever" (actually it stays there for 20 minutes, after this time our hardware watchdog resets the whole system).

After the watchdog does reset, we are again the same situation: CREG 2.

We tried to reset modem  (put it in airplane mode then bring it back to normal state). We remained in the same status: CREG 2.

I tried to reset it using AT+CFUN=1,1, nothing changed.

How can we recover the TC65iX? I would like to search for another visible operator, then to manually connect to this new operator.
