Hello,
I am Prateek Gupta studying Bachelors of engineering in computer
science from BITS Pilani Goa in India.I am a first year student and a
budding programmer willing to participate Google summer of code 2012
and have keen interest in java2python project.
I have fairly good knowledge in C,JAVA as well as decent in python.I
have been studying JAVA for four years now and also working more on
python so as get better knowledge about it as well as about open
source community and its functioning.
I would fancy to participate in GSoC 2012 under your project and would
do my level best to stand up to the expectation of the project.
I would like to hear replies from the members to help me understand
where to start from and also guide me so that i can also contribute to
open source community in whatever little measure i can.

Hoping for replies.
with regards,
Prateek Gupta.

Hi Prateek,

First off, thanks for the interest in the project! It would be great
to have some outside help.

Second, make sure you're referencing the code on github and not the
google site; I'm going complete the move to github soon.

Third, where are you at with the GSoC application process? Do you
have a mentoring organization?

Finally, the places where I know j2py needs help:

1. Porting j2py to Python 3 -- this isn't possible until the Python
ANTLR port also works on Python 3.
2. Allowing j2py to produce Python 3 and Python 2 output -- currently
it's just Python 2.
3. Migrating more of the visitor/template behaviors into AST transformations
4. Complete Java language coverage in tests.
5. The performance is pretty poor in some cases (especially when
writing the internal, debug AST trees), but that's not a big issue too
me.

Please don't hesitate to drop me a note or make another post on the
list. In any and all cases, best of luck to you,

troy
