To help a little, while the selection has been narrowed down based on available .org domains AFAIK, there are barely any of these with an available first hand Twitter account.
  • jconfederate
  • jagorava
  • samagik
  • samoogam
Are the only ones where as of now, a Twitter user would be available.
All others are taken, though 90% of those are time-wasters, meaning accounts with 0-3 posts, usually neither more followers or them following either.

I asked our boss, an American how he feels about the term "confederate" in a project name. He said, there is certainly still controversy, and unlike e.g. WW1 or 2 some people in the south still insist THEY may actually have won or should have. Not to mention battle celebrations. Not sure, if e.g. in France they also do that with Napoleon. Given, there are Apache projects like "geronimo" who while more in the victim's position was also a controversial figure from that time, it is certainly not my favorite, but there are other similar examples as we see.

Werner

Good point however there is always some controversy with naming that you cannot really avoid. I remember a story about women who started crying during JEE training when trainer mentioned infant mortality in context of GC. Obviously she lost her child not so long before… As a more funny story we realized GateIn Portal can be pronounced like 'Gay Teen' after it was too late to change our mind ;)

I actually like jconfederate the most btw.

Good point Werner,

But I don't think it's such a big deal to have a name without the exact Twitter account available. We could always take @NameProject

That does not make sense, unless Antoine ran out of email addresses;-)

Since there's always HashTags like #Java_Social, the account is not incredibly important. I chose to not delete jsr357 as it serves very little purpose outside the JCP, but let's say for some experiments where you don't want all your friends and followers to be affected, I felt, an account like that may serve well as "dummy" at some point.

The important thing is, that except for "Samoogam" I believe none of the other names is available as Twitter name, so we'd be forced to use some variations let's say @Bacino_Social or @Agorava_Social after all.
Even if Antoine renamed it eliminating the original @Java_Social account (not sure, if I'd do it though, if a "timewaster" grabs it, you'll never ever get it again, I doubt, Twitter even thought about dispute resolutions there so far, except if let's say somebody reserved @BarackObama and only had 1 follower;-) you can't rename it into an account that is taken.

Stephen from JSR-310 is using a different survey tool (RationalSurvey, but I doubt it has any relation to IBM or Rational;-) but the general idea
of using Doodle, Google Docs or other appropriate mechanisms for a survey about details of a project or JSR is similar to our decision making here earlier: https://www.rationalsurvey.com/studyPeriods/collect/stdy_perd_id/3775/page/1
