Listener for getting executed states

Dear All, 

I am trying to write a listener which can get execution states. As an instance, 

main(){

   X is symbolic;

   do_something(X);

}

I want to put a listener right in the do_something(X) method, and get the function that we have. The problem seems to be simple but I have no experience in this area, that is why I need help to write this piece of code.

I will appreciate if someone can help me.
