Concerning the latest spam

I would like to apologise on behalf of the group for the stream of
spam mail reaching your mail-box. I have mailed Eric, so that
membership will be switched to an invite only mode (I believe google
groups support this, don't actually know though). Again, apologies for
the inconvenience.

I don't think this is required (it is usually counterproductive). The
best strategy is to make the posts moderated
for new users.
Also it makes sense to report not just the messages as spam (when
appear), but the user's profile too (if it's using that address for
spam only.

Unfortunately I don't have any special group privileges, so 'll just
have to wait for Eric's response. I trust there is an option for this?

Actually did both of these for all the offending messages/profiles
this
morning.

I've been removing the SPAM posts and banning the users. I've been
hesitant to restrict membership, etc. hoping the latest flurry would
die down.

I like the suggestion of moderating new member posts as a compromise,
and I've set that for now.
