Title        : Lead Data Engineer / Data Platform Lead

Location : Remote

Duration : 6+ month

The client is currently using a lift-and-shift approach for their data, but they need to move away from this strategy. They require someone who can take ownership of the architecture, provide guidance on the overall implementation, and then actively roll up their sleeves to execute.

Their current stack includes Databricks, C-Data, and SSIS for ETL and integration, with data coming from TriZetto Facets (membership, clinical, financial, Medicaid/Medicare data).

Additionally, they have extensive Tableau reporting but need to remodel reports for Power BI and move data pipelines into Snowflake. This is not a lift-and-shift project—the data and reporting ecosystem needs to be re-architected for Power BI and Snowflake rather than simply migrated as-is.

Candidates must answer these questions in DETAIL- WHERE/WHEN/HOW

·  "Can you describe a project where you transitioned a system from a lift-and-shift approach to a redesigned architecture, and what specific steps you took to modernize the data pipelines?"

·  "How have you implemented or planned Snowflake in a production environment, particularly for healthcare or membership/clinical/financial data?"

·  "What is your experience with re-architecting Tableau reports to Power BI, and how did you handle data modeling changes in the process?"

·  "Can you walk us through how you’ve integrated tools like Databricks, C-Data, and SSIS to consolidate, transform, and deliver data for analytics?"

·  "How do you approach large-scale data remodeling for complex sources like TriZetto Facets, including membership, clinical, and financial datasets, while ensuring data quality and minimal disruption?"

UPDATED DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a hands-on technical leader (“player-coach”) to guide the evolution of a modern data platform built on Snowflake and Power BI. This individual will play a critical role in stabilizing, optimizing, and maturing an environment that has been developed organically over the past year, including healthcare membership, clinical, and financial data sourced from TriZetto Facets.

This is an opportunity to step into a partially built ecosystem, establish best practices, and elevate both the platform and the team’s capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Act as a player-coach: contribute hands-on while mentoring a growing team
  • Establish best practices for Snowflake architecture, data modeling, and performance optimization
  • Provide guidance on Power BI data modeling, semantic layers, and reporting standards, including migrating and remodeling legacy Tableau reports
  • Lead integration of Databricks, C-Data, SSIS, and other ETL tools into the Snowflake platform

Platform Maturity & Transformation

  • Assess current Snowflake implementation and recommend improvements
  • Lead transition from lift-and-shift / ad hoc development to a scalable, governed data platform
  • Implement data governance, lineage, and quality frameworks for clinical, membership, and financial datasets
  • Ensure proper handling of CDC pipelines for real-time or near-real-time data integration from source systems like TriZetto Facets

Data Engineering & Architecture

  • Design and optimize ELT/ETL pipelines and data workflows
  • Improve cost efficiency, performance, and scalability in Snowflake
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into data solutions
  • Remodel data pipelines and reports from legacy environments (e.g., Tableau) to Power BI, ensuring optimized Snowflake data models

Team Development

  • Mentor engineers who have been “learning on the fly”
  • Introduce standards, code reviews, and development lifecycle processes
  • Help build a long-term data strategy

Required Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years in data engineering / data platform roles
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Snowflake (architecture, performance tuning, data modeling)
  • Experience with Power BI (semantic models, reporting, governance)
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring teams (formal or informal)
  • Experience modernizing or scaling a data platform, including transitioning from lift-and-shift approaches
  • Experience integrating Databricks, C-Data, SSIS, and other ETL tools into a modern data stack
  • Exposure to healthcare or financial data sources (TriZetto Facets, membership, clinical, financial, Medicaid/Medicare)

Preferred

  • Experience with dbt, Airflow, or similar orchestration tools
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Background in data governance / data quality frameworks
  • Experience migrating dashboards and reports from Tableau to Power BI
