Role : Java Technical Lead
Location is Lansing MI
Phone/Skype
H1’s are fine
Must be Senior Level
Individual
must have solid working knowledge of ‘core Java skills’ (Weblogic, Java, J2EE).
Last week, they asked one of the guys a basic Java question and the candidate
responded with something like ‘I can look that up on Google’. The person in
this role needs to have solid Java knowledge because they are going to help mentor
and lead the technical programmers on the team. They can’t respond with ‘I’ll
look it up on Google’ if somebody asks them a coding question.
Individual in this role must be ‘hands on’ – meaning they have working
experience with coding, with mentoring technical people, with technical coding
reviews, etc. One of the people last week was too ’10,000 foot level’ – meaning
they were more strategic in their thought process; they were not real
comfortable with the role when told that they would be expected to ‘roll up
their sleeves’ and sit with team members to help others get work done. Another
person came across as too much like a ‘manager’ as opposed to someone who would
help get work done.
This is a technical lead role – not an individual performer role. Meaning that
the person in this role will be very much involved in working directly with all
of the members on the team as well as with their peers across the organization.
In this job, the person should not expect to just sit in their chair all day
looking at their screen.
The common question that gets asked in business is, 'why?' That's a good question, but an equally valid question is, 'why not?'
