Hi all,

The success of a good JSR also relies on its expert members. As we can see with few exchanges, Tweets and conferences, configuration in Java EE is a topic that matters to developers as well as operationals. So both should be part of this JSR.

I also would like to see people from Seam Config and Spring Config framework. Configuration, like logs, is a well known topic that has already been implemented by several people. Not good to reinvent the wheel, better to gain from previous stories. If you know anybody from those frameworks (or others), please contact them.

Java EE is more and more CDI focused and I think JavaConfig should benefit from it. So I'm CCed Pete Muir to see if he (or a member of the CDI team) is interested in joining the conversation.

Well for starters I am already member of both the CDI and Umbrella EE 7 EG;-)

And based on working with large DevOps, Automation- and/or Op-centric projects around the globe, I have seen some of the Best and Worst you can do in this area;-D

Hi all,

for all that do not yet know me. beside that I am leading also JSR 354 (money & currency), I am working for a global financial insitute with hundesds of applications. We currently also are building up our private cloud and as global actor in the finance industry have configuration requirements that for sure exceed the average. I am currently working on both problem areas (DevOps) as well as in the application development department.
4 years ago I have (re)written/refactored the configuration management system completely and had a chance of several years on thinking how things can be done more simpler. Therefore I hope I can give some cents on creating a configuration standard that is basically small, simple but also powerful and extendible. I am sure that, when we combine the know how and experience of all matter of experts around the globe, that we achieve a great result, so the whole Java community will profit in the future.

So, keep on discussing, Here it's fun reading all the posts!

Hi all,

I'm Juven Xu, currently working for a huge e-commerce company in China. We have hundreds of web application running so easy configuration is a must for both developers and operations. Part of my job is to make developers and operations' life easier.

Before I was involved in the Maven world.

Hi all,

I'm Nicolas De Loof, working as DevOps support engineer at CloudBees. Have been working for a dozen years for consultancy company creating various JavaEE applications. I'm opensource fan-boy, Maven and Jenkins committer, Apache commons-configuration contributor (that I joined after giving up with my own home-made config framework). I'm now more involved in the operational aspects of configuration management, with continuous delivery in mind.

Hello,

I'm a java developer with over 8 years of experience doing consulting for different companies in Belgium. I don't have any practical experience with maintaining open source software, nor have I participated in a JSR. However I'm willing to follow these discussions and give my input from a developer point of view.

I actually got redirected here by Antonio, who mentioned this group while replying on one of my tweets and I'm hoping my input will be useful for the whole community.

Mark Struberg, ASF member and CDI EG member.

I am also the guy who wrote the DeltaSpike ConfigSource mechanism (together with Gerhard Petracek).

I think we can pretty much split the config in a core part which is independent of CDI.
CDI can then be used to additionally inject the configured values (for ease of use).

strub

Hi Mark, good to see you onboard. I really like DeltaSpike ConfigSource mechanism and hope to see some of its features standardize.

You're a Freelance Java Developer I assume?
Until JSR 364 is done, you can't officially represent a JUG in an EG.
Well the Config JSR is not even proposed yet, maybe 364 finishes first?O:-)

In any case the new Affiliate members for JUG members are a new "Contributer" category. Not a full EG member. If you are Self employed you could join "on behalf" of a JUG but contributing IP as yourself.
If you are employed you could only join if your company signs Exhibit B for you, the JUG can't do that.

HTH,
Werner

Hi all,

The contributor rules may be slightly complex, but in the Adopt-a-JSR program [0], [1] we're always keen to promote JUG participation within JSRs (and future JSRs :-) )

Certainly we'll be keen to help in any way we can within the London Java Community, for example, reviewing specs and for the proposed configuration and running hackdays etc.

@Oliver - if you want any further information I can recommend contacting Heather Vancura (cc'd) at Oracle who manages involvement within this type of thing, and can answer all of your questions :-)

Best wishes,

Daniel

Hello Werner, hello Daniel,

thanks for your answers. The JUG here in Berlin is joining the iJUG e.V., who is already a JCP member, and will give us the required legal body to be able to take part in a EG. Further more we also would like to support this JSR by running hackdays and similar events.

Best,

Oliver

Hi,

I found the project by chance.

A colleague of mine, the leader of the DOAG Java SIG Nuremberg showed me your proposal for a possible JSR and since I'm quite interested in configuration management and DevOps, I'd like to offer my help. Although I'm just a junior software engineer, maybe I can assist you with some tasks.

Kind regards,
Andreas
