MAVEN: Problem with "mvn archetype:generate"

Sir,
Greeting,
I have followed you first video of MAVEN(i am using win xp).
When i type mvn --version, its works fine.
but mvn archetype:generate, gives the following error

please help to solve it.

Make sure you are connected to internet. Most probably it could be a firewall issue. [ Mostly in cases of corporate networks ]

Try to allow http://repo.maven.apache.org

Is there any way to bypass the firewall of corporate nw.  (or) any alternate solution to make it work in corporate office ?
