I recently got the urge to play Dune 2000 again. I successfully installed it in my Windows XP laptop. Everything was working fine until the opening video was over. Once I got into the game menu and the actual game, the screen became shifted so far that it split, with the left 2/3rds being on the far right and the remaining right 1/3rd on the far left. If I move my mouse cursor in towards the right edge of my screen, the mouse will actually go past the edge and reappear on the left side of my screen.
Unfortunatly, the compatability with XP and dune 2000 is a little shaky, the reason the screen isnt fully observed is because the game does not use the monitors resolution, instead has its own, and when started it will be disoriented. The best thing is to download the full game from a local website like nahoo.com
hey im not very computer smart...but ive followed all links with u guys...and in answer to the last message ive tried adding the -g to the command line and it doesnt recognise it as being valid...whats my next step?
Unfortunately, the menu screen can't be corrected, but try to change the colour settings to 8-bit in that menu (a bit of a hassle, but you can do it). When you run a mission, the screen is fine. A pity it's 8-bit, but better this than nothing, eh?
HI ALL ... I HAD A HECK OF A TIME GETTING THIS GAME TO LAUNCH, FIRST MAKE SURE YOUR FIREWALL WILL ALLOW THE GAME TO RUN (AS MINE WAS BLOCKING IT LOL) THEN DO THE FOLLOWING AS YOU MAY SEE AN ERROR THAT SAYS YOUR VIDEO CARD DOES NOT SUPPORT THE RESOLUTION PLEASE CHECK THE CONFIGURATION TOOL (OR ALOMNG THOSE LINES) DO THE FOLLOWING:
4. SELECT THE FIRST 3 OPTIONS (THE PROGRAM WORKED IN EARLIER VERSIONS OF WINDOWS BUT WONT INSTALL OR RUN - THE PROGRAM OPEN BUT DOES NOT DISPLAY CORRECTLY - THE PROGRAM REQUIRES ADDITIONAL PERMISSIONS.
6. SELECT THE FOLLOWING BOXES A) ERROR MESSAGE SAYING THE PROGRAM NEEDS TO RUN IN 65536 COLORS OR 16 BIT COLOR MODE B) PROGRAM STARTS UP IN A SMALL WINDOW (640X480 PIXEL) AND WONT SWITCH TO FULL SCREEN C) PROGRAM DOES NOT DISPLAY PROPERLY WHEN LARGE SCALE FONT SETTINGS ARE SELECTED.
7. HIT NEXT (IF YOU TEST TO SEE IF SETTINGS WORKED IT MAY COMPLETELY FREEZE AFTER THE FIRST MOVIE CUTSCENE - SO JUST SAVE THE SETTINGS AND RE-LAUNCH THE GRUNTMODS PROGRAM AND LAUNCH THE GAME FROM THERE - IT SHOULD WORK PERFECTLY.
8. TO KEEP THE MOVIES AND SCREEN SIZE LARGE, ENSURE YOU SELECT IN THE CONFIG SETTINGS UNDER VIDEO OPTIONS - CUTSCENE CHANGE RESOLUTION - WILL KEEP ALL MOVIES FULL SCREEN. I FOUND RESOLUTION 1024X768 TO BE BEST AS GAME PLAY IS ZOOMED IN AT GOOD RATE.
When i tried to launch the game an error message would appear regarding video card not supporting the resolution. . May have been am Nvidia issue.. the above steps worked wonders for me. . Lookingin the forum others have had similar issues.
Thank you this worked wonders. I had the same exact error message. I have only played three times has crashed each time. Any settings I can change to help it? I will of course keep playing with the crashing just have to save more often.
Can you give us some more details about the crash? Is there any error message? What windows? Does it happen in the campaign or online? What are your settings in dune2000config? Does it happen randomly while playing or when you press a certain button?
win10 x64. no error messages. it was in campaign. i set res to 1024x768 checked cutscene change resolution and after the third crash i checked enable DxWnd all other settings are default. the dxwnd seems to have fixed the crash. it was just random.
edit. I spoke too soon. intel graphics driver update uma skylake win10 (64-bit) - fxn installed with fxn_2016 intel rst driver for win10/win7 (64-bit) opened game campaign where I left off. crashed no warning within 2 mins. twice then ran about 15 mins before crashing. turned off dxwnd still crashed. what other sort of data can I share is there a log file somewhere
Could be anything... Are the updates even working on the insider preview? Can it download the needed components on demand? Error could be related to directplay and it fails to download the needed files.
Ok one, gotta thank you a ton, this did help, somehow my avast was blocking it and not telling me it was blocking it, turning avast off let the game launch properly.. but now the issue is on the cutscenes which I let it install, I only get about 1/3 of the screen being used and all it shows is dark purples/black squares and a static-effect, so somethings gone wrong and Im not sure what and also now twice, the game just freezes and can't be closed thanks to fucking windows 10 refusal to let you bring up task manager while the crashing program is still crashing -.-
I can't help you with the cutscenes, but you are not the only one with the freezing issue... for some reason setting compatibility mode to Windows 8 improved it for me, but sometimes it still happens. The task manager issue is annoying, but this suggestion works for me: -game-freezes-and-have-to-restart-computer-again/?do=findComment&comment=393897
This is caused by missing DirectPlay Instructions[citation needed] Enable DirectPlay in Start->Control Panel->Programs and Features->Turn Windows Features On or Off->Legacy Components->DirectPlay
Sand FLea's fix worked for me > This is caused by missing DirectPlay Instructions[citation needed] Enable DirectPlay in Start->Control Panel->Programs and Features->Turn Windows Features On or Off->Legacy Components->DirectPlay
I'm having this same issue. If I disable cutscenes, it works. If I enable cutscenes, as soon as the intro finishes, I get a blank screen and have to sign out or restart to quit the program. In case this detail also matters, the cutscenes stop working if I set the application language.
Dune2000 is trying to initialize 640x400 and failing. Westwood's C&C games on windows would usually have a letterboxed 640x480 compatibility option in there for that situation, as not all DirectX display drivers give that mode.
I've searched in graphic control panel and found a special settings tab in Matrox Powerdesk. It allows me to tweak manually each graphic mode.
I realized that default frequency for 640x400 & 640x480 was 85Hz and my monitor supports only 70Hz.
So by adjusting and saving settings, I don't have the message on my display monitor.
I have installed and tested Dune with v1.02 patch applied. I ran Dune2000.exe with and without the -g option, and I tried out all 3 house campaigns @10 minutes each of mining spice. I didn't experience any problems running the game.
Thank you very much for trying.
For my part, I have not advanced; I know the game crashes but the PC is not crashed. I can go back to windows 98se and in task manager I get the message "Dune 2000" not responding.
Your Matrox card is the same as mine (except mine is PCI -no AGP on my machine). I didn't have any antivirus program loaded.
Thinking my CD is the problem, I tried also 2 different cracked versions of the game and it does the same.
Oh, one more thing. If you're using Matrox PowerDesk, go to the advanced settings (in one of the "display properties tabs" and disable the "Bus mastering" option (then reboot). I have read this can resolve (I think at vintage3d.org) problems with some games.
ala_borbe: thanks for advice but I am running PC computers since 1995 and I know basic rules & checks.
No issue with VGA cbles. I got 280 DOS games and more than 100 windows games running flawlessly on this computer.
I hope we don't wreck the other 379 games to save the 1! In my experience, no matter the hardware/software combination or from what time period they are from, there is always 1 game that never works right with the system assembled, necessitating the need for a 2nd (or 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and so on...) system. It's so annoying!
You're right!
I got this computer since 1995. Since 2014, I've upgraded storage to CF card and I've collected many PC games and try to make them work on it (CD less) with lastest patchs, new fan translations (like Monkey Island Ultimate 1&2) and tweaking to make most DOS games workings with my Roland SC-88 or MT-32.
And sometimes cracked version works better than my genuine copy.
