Dear Friends

One of my friends has received a call from a Dialog number last
Saturday from a caller who identified himself as IP Nishantha from the
Terrorist Investigation Unit.

The caller has mentioned that they captured a tamil named ������..
(which I cannot recall) who involved in terrorist activities
Valaichchenai . And has asked from my friend whether he knows him.
When my friend said no, the caller has said the terrorist was using 8
SIM cards, and one of the SIMs has his number saved.

The caller (IP) has told him that, they need him to come to the
terrorist detention unit to identify the suspects and this process
will go on for 20 days. Further the caller has said that they will
come to take him with a court order as during the interrogation the
suspect mentioned that he knows my friend very well.

My friend has agreed to support the investigation, however
immediately he has checked with his brother who is a brigadier, and
was advised to lodge a complaint in the police station after
discovering that this is a scam call (made calls to all Intelligent
units, Army headquarters etc).

My friend has lodged the complaint about this call at Kirulapona
Police station and when had a chat with the OIC has learnt that this
is an organized criminal group doing this to kidnap, blackmail and
steal money. When the police tried the number there was no answer. He
was the 21st victim out of the people who lodged complaints at
Kirulapona Police.

This happened to two of office friends residing in Colombo 06 and
Colombo 05. Firstly they have got the calls to their home/landlines
and from home they have got the mobile numbers to call the person
directly. They have even got the basic details of their profile such
as working for Sri Lankan Airlines/Managerial position/vehicles etc
etc. they have taken millions according to the police using the
similar gimmicks from many people from Kurunegala, Batticaloa and
Colombo (A few areas mentioned)

Pls inform your homefront, if any calls asking for information, do
not divulge or to entertain the unidentified calls. Also inform them
not to open the doors/gates even someone says from the
Police/Forces/CID etc (they might even come with a fake courts order
to take you). If such a situation occurs, call 119 immediately and ask
for assistance.

Pls inform your family to be careful and not to fall for these scam calls.
