I observe that the instructions to Download the JASPAR2022 database as SQL dump file. now advise

To instantiate an SQLite database from the SQL dump file, use the following command in a Unix shell session:

 gunzip -c JASPAR2022.sql.gz | sqlite3 JASPAR2022.sqlite3

In the past (as recently as March 2021) your database dumps were provided as zipped tar archives and were in mysql dialect of SQL.

I have been trying to stay abreast of changes in JASPAR and subscribe to your blog for this reason but have seen no mention of your motivation for the change.

Can you please advise the reason for the change and if there are better ways than following your blog to stay abreast of such changes?

Thanks for your interest in JASPAR. We have moved our local instance to sqlite for practical reasons and so we now provide sqlite dumps. We are sorry about the potential inconveniences raised. We should have informed the users through our Changelog.
