I am going to try an ablative with 45% copper and an anti slime additive. I wonder if I can expect two gals. to yield two coats with a third at the waterline?

Don't forget that the effectiveness and coverage of any bottom paint is affected by water chemistry and temperature and climate. Here in SE Alaska the salt water is diluted by streams or all sizes that are fed by rain and melting glaciers. Our boats generally are in water all year yet I got by with two coats and two gallons. I generally repainted every other year, but not always. The new owner will move her to Hawaii later this year so he will be using more paint and repainting more often.
