This has been brought up to me several times in the last few weeks. Why
don't we require JDK 1.5 for uP3? Andrew is going to be working on JDK
1.5 support for uP3 and unless we have some valid concerns here the plan
is to have the changes made to only support 1.5 for uP3.

Eric,

A few questions:
1. What are the changes?
2. Is there a particular reason the changes won't be supported in JDK1.4?
3. Have we determined that most of the users will be on the JDK 1.5 by
the time they plan on adopting uP3?

The biggest changes are the DOM3 changes.
The issue is jumping through the hoops of the compatibility libraries to
support 1.4 as well. As we have seen it causes some big problems with
WSRP as well.
The idea is if your going with uP3 you're working on the latest code so
running on 1.5 shouldn't be an issue either.

1.6 is supposed to be out in the Fall. At that point 1.6 & 1.5 would
be the last 2 JDKs. Also, IBM and BEA have released 1.5 JDKs, so a
significant barrier is gone.

WSRP seems to be the big killer to me.
